El Presidente Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Bolivar Belicoso Fino POL FEB 11 Lovely oily wrapper. Lightly barnyard pungent at cold as all good fresh BBFshould be Draw at cold requires just a slight pull. Perfect. Starting off medium bodied, touch of driftwood, earth,Sesame seed oil. Light white pepper spice through the nose…disappearing. Really into a great rhythm at the halfway point. There is alovely richness to these which I have been enjoying for a month or so. Earth, leather, some nut oil. Lovely aroma. It really gets better/richer all the way to the end where itis full bodied and introducing throughout the last third elements of cookingchocolate and white pepper spice. BBF have had a rollercoaster ride in quality and consistencyover the past decade with last half 2010 /2011 stock seeing a huge improvement. I won’tcall these as back “on” until the next shipment mid-January but they haveforced themselves into my rotation
investandprosper Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I have noticed the same thing from a cab of BBFs I had. So good every time.
Wil Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 This is good to hear. One of my first and favourite cigars.
Bahnofstrasse Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I have always enjoyed the BBF. A great medium/full smoke with typical Boli flavors... I am currently out and will look forward to a Cabinet or 2 being offered on the next LFTH!
headstand Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Thanks for the review Rob. I have a cab that has been nothing but splendid so far.
anthem Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Thanks for the review Rob. I'm glad I picked up another cab on LFTH, my cab from 08 is almost done...
dicko Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 thanks for the review Rob. I think i have only had bad examples, but I'm not really a beli/torp fan anyway. Love my boli's though! Glad you guys are all enjoying your cabs!
Pilgrims Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 The BBF was the first Bolivar I ever had and that was only in the summer just gone, great to read that they are as god as I thought that one was...cheers for the update/note
Michel1968 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Great review! One of my favs (when on) and good to read they're on a surf again!
Guest rob Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I've not been dissatisfied with any BBF I've had in the last 2 years. I haven't been let down once in fact. I feel that even at their worst they're still a good smoke.
Quint Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 That is good news use to be a favorite of mine but dropped of the chart for the last few years or so. I love these when they are on.
CBL Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 These were high on my to-buy list last year, but after a lot of negative reviews they slipped off the list. Might try another single before committing to a box.
anacostiakat Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Just finishing a MAY10 slb of these. Light wrappers. I really enjoyed them. Had one last night as a fact.
Dbone Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Man that cigar looks so good in your pictures, Rob. Bolivar have always been in my humidor although never the Beli, it's kind of the ugly step child of the brand. If your supply is coming in good, I'd be game for a cab. Similar in flavor from say the RC or PC?
DaniloSilni Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Great review, and i've never seen a BBF that oily! Its just oozing in those pictures.
stargazer14 Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Fo me, there is no finer cigar. I have other favorites, but the BBF defines 'fine' in the word 'finest. Nuf said.
TWalker Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I've never had one, but a friend gave me a BBF over 2 years ago and it's been resting every since. Maybe it's time I smoked it, seeing as how highly everyone speaks of this one.
bassman Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Cabs are just better than dress boxes. Especially true for this stick. More so than most others imho. BBF is always excellent. Don't know why people have said they were no good a few years ago...? The cabs I had from 2003 thru 08 were quite bland compared to other Bolivar. I gave up & haven't ordered BBFs since. No loss- plenty of BCJs, PCs, Coronas, CEs & CGs stocked up. To my taste, all better than the BBF.
mbrody Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 No loss- plenty of BCJs, PCs, Coronas, CEs & CGs stocked up. To my taste, all better than the BBF. My 07's just did not float my boat. Ditched em. Have one from a member here to revisit (as I should). But otherwise, like bassman says, plenty of other great boli to go around...would be a plus if I enjoyed the current BBF though!
Bartolomeo Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Never had a BBF i liked, sounds like I need to revisit these But I also have had problems finding good RASS and PSD4 as well Bart
headstand Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Man that cigar looks so good in your pictures, Rob. Bolivar have always been in my humidor although never the Beli, it's kind of the ugly step child of the brand. If your supply is coming in good, I'd be game for a cab. Similar in flavor from say the RC or PC? Agree it is one fine looking cigar. In my opinion the BBF is like the PC(except with a better draw and more smoke), and nothing at all like the RC which I find to be the odd man out in the Boli range. As you get to the last 1/3 on the BBF watch for the smoke to get viscous and brooding. I love them.
headstand Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Boli observation and question: I love Bolis and always bring a few PC or CJ with me when I travel. Now I usually smoke in the drier air of Alberta and south central British Columbia Canada and have had perhaps only two foul tasting Bolis to date. However on 5 occasions now when I have fired one up on Canada's west coast (literally hanging out on the docks) I have had a poor experience - the flavors were off and the cigar was harsh. Now I don't bother taking them with me for coastal adventures. Has anyone else had similar experiences? Any idea why this is happening? is the Boli destined to be a desert smoke?
ChanceSchmerr Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 I love the Boli BF and have sung it's praises to a lot of cigar-smoking friends. Never have had a bad one! That said, I have never bought myself a cab and have none at the moment......because they aren't discontinued Too busy stocking up on discontinueds to pick up a cab of regular production cigars I actually like...I'm sure eventually once Habanos stops discontinuing cigars I like, I'll catch up and actually start buying current production cigars I love, like Party 898s and ERDM Choix Supremes.
