Kapsimalis Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 It's me again guys with now a small question. Now I live at home with the whole family. Both parents, two siblings(one older, one younger) and my cat. So it's a smoke free house Which is fine because I'd hate my house to smell of stale smoke all day. Now my question is, I know many people have different setup ups of exhausting smoke. I'm just curious how you guys do it?
Puros Y Vino Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I exhaust it from my deck out back. Wall to wall carpeting in the house and a disapproving wife keep me from enjoying a cigar within my own four walls. To be honest, I wouldn't smoke in my own house either unless I had a separately ventilated room for it.
Lotusguy Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Natural ventilation in my backyard or (when it rains) my covered front patio I wouldn't dream of smoking in my house, even if I was living alone. Stale cigar smoke just smells NASTY.
TonyV Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I have a room in my basement with an ac/unit,exhaust fan and air purifier. Also have a gallon of spray called smoke free,so far it works well.
nick17 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 wish i could smoke inside in winter but it would have to be in a separate room that is ventilated and exhausted to outside the house but i smoke in the garage in winter and in summer i smoke out side on the patio
riazp Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I have a three season room out back that it somewhat far from the next nearest common room (the kitchen) In the winter I stick a portable heater in there and i'm good to go. Did I mention i'll be spending cold winter nights at your place... Personally, no smoking in my place, have a wife and son so its my balcony or nothing for me.
CigarAsh Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I tried once to smoke indoors in my unfinished basement. I have a walled off shop area that doesn't allow any return air back into the HVAC system (to keep wood dust out). Installed a nice powered vent system near to where I smoked. Have a nice TV with cable in it. I thought it would be perfect. Unfortunately the smoke just tended to creep everywhere in the basement. The drop ceiling just allowed smoke above it and to move throughout the basement. The next day it just reeked everywhere in the basement - never made it the rest of the house or the wife would have killed me. Now, if it's not deck weather, I have the good fortune to be a 2 minute drive from a great B&M with huge smoking lounges that opened 2 years ago. I can buy there or bring my own (which includes food and libation) and it's a great social place for a cigar.
thechenman Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 At home...I only smoke outdoors. Two kids, two dogs and a wife who is not fond of the smell of stagnant cigar smoke keeps me outdoors. I have a B&M near me which I am a member of, but I practically never use their lounge. Just don't have the time to get away.

No compromise there. Best, Alex
dB69 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Home is the place where I do what I want to. I smoke inside, but only in one room which is easy to ventilate because of the door leading to backyard. If I couldn't smoke at home, I wouldn't call it a home.
Strada Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I am lucky enough to be able to smoke inside because my girlfriend enjoys smoking cigars also. I have a fan and crack open a window most of the year but now I have to buy a filter for the winter. Any recommendation? HEPA, ION....?
ptrthgr8 Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I smoke in the house, too. I don't smoke upstairs (where the bedrooms are), but the living room, TV room, computer room, and everything else downstairs is fair game. I prefer to smoke on the patio during the nicer months (I'd rather be outside than inside on those days, smoking or not), but it's good to be able to smoke in the house, too. During the warmer months we leave the windows open, but during the colder months we rely only on the central AC to do it's filtering thing. I'll usually change the AC filters every 4-6 weeks since this those months see a lot more smoking. (I change them every 3 months during the warmer months.) Cheers, ~ Greg ~
bassman Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I smoke in the house. My wife doesn't mind the smell of cigar smoke & the cat hasn't complained yet either. When it's too cold to crack the windows, burning a stick of Dhoop or Green Moogra Indian incense works very nicely to change the post cigar aroma.
CBL Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I rent a studio appartement so I live in one big open area where living room, kitchen and bedroom are one. But I'm still able to smoke indoors when I'm alone. My girlfriend doesn't mind if I smoke indoors when she's there, but I still prefer to only smoke indoors when I'm alone or when smoking with a friend. It just doesn't feel comfortable or relaxing when I'm smoking near a non-smoker indoors. But I love the fact that I can have a Minuto or a PC while relaxing on the couch right after or before breakfast with a nice cup of coffee
sam Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I have a bar in my walk-out rec room that has several ceiling vents connected to a high-powered fan ducted outside. (thanks to my brother the HVAC engineer). It works well and allows me to smoke at home during the cold Minnesota winters. ---sam
Peter11216 Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 This works surprisingly well: A twenty inch box fan, with a 20 inch filter designed for a ventilation system. The box fan is strong enough to hold the filter against its air intake, just by suction. I found that a $10 filter will clean the air pretty well, leaving no odor of smoke after a several hours. I ran this set up in my unfinished basement last year, and had to change the filter once a month, for 5-7 cigars a week. It's me again guys with now a small question. Ghabanos Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I'm in an apartment but luckily it has a roof top which is wide open. I don't smoke inside as we only have 750 sq feet to work with. Kids and wife makes sure I do it upstairs. When too hot I head to my b&m
Kapsimalis Posted November 15, 2011 Author Posted November 15, 2011 Great responses guys. Glad I could think of something interesting to shoot the sh@t about. So anyways so good ideas there. Now there is this place I smoke indoors that is just fantastic. My dads office! He owns his own company and has bought a 3000 sq foot unit with two floors. The upstairs is 700 feet of man cave Lounge. Downstairs is roughly 750 sq feet of "office" and a back is an open warehouse for storage which uses the remainder of the sq footage lol. Anyways point is you can smoke anywhere! There is exhaust fans everywhere in the ceilings all vented outside and they are whisper quiet:D we've had about 10 cigars goin in the lounge watching the pits urgh steelers dominate and 30 min later you could walk in the lounge and smell nothing! Great vents=great time again and again. Ps the lounge has 65inches of plasma screen, surround sound Bose lifestyle stereo. Satellite, Greek satellite for the adults( because I myself don't find Greek tv entertaining) great leather chairs, a big leather L couch, fridge fu of beer and snacks, bar with everything you could drink, and a beautiful espresso machine. Courtesy of my choice and expertise. Oh and there's a bathroom lol. The humidor is lacking. Only 150 count with some pretty good stuff inside but my dad and his business partner aren't like me and you guys when it comes to cigars. Anyways b4 I end this reply I just want to say a great rich espresso and cigar is brilliant.
markmurase Posted November 15, 2011 Posted November 15, 2011 I love to have a smoke in the house. Inside, the burn is more consistent and I often notice additional, subtle flavours that I didn't get outside. We burn frankincence afterwards to clear the smell: the same stuff the 3 wise men gave baby Jesus. It does a great job. Easy to get in Arabia, but possibly harder to get elsewhere. However, smoking outside is good too
