Ginseng Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Received some Cohiba Esplendidos in 3x cardboard packs recently. Mold, fugly, and just not pretty. But fired one up this morning while working on the deck and damned if it isn't an excellent freakin' smoke. Rich, chewey, pungent...satisfying. I guess beauty isn't just skin deep. That is all. Wilkey
cigcars Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 ? You mean a cigar with MOLD on it was still smokeable and enjoyable????? There's hope after all for some of my mistakes thru the years?

Stalebread Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Rich, chewey, pungent...satisfying. I guess beauty isn't just skin deep. That is all. Wilkey Pungent. Skin deep and then some. Good to know that things are sometimes more than they seem.
Ginseng Posted October 25, 2011 Author Posted October 25, 2011 Bravo my friend It's all in the MOLD We call it "TERROIR " Maybe it was botrytis, noble rot? Who knows if in a few months I might have the d'Yquem of Habanos on my hands. Taking bids now. Wilkey

laficion Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I find this thread quiet interesting because after reading for years that , my cigar has THIS and the cigar has THAT, Blah Blah Blah. Plus, the way certain smokers go about being soooooo picky and fussy around a band, a brand, a taste, Humidity at 60% or 65% or 80% OR 70% or wrapper or what have you. When a cigar becomes more of a technical specimen them a moment of relaxation and enjoyment, then,I'm sometimes very pleased when everything is put back into question. As I've already said, I've been smoking Habanos for 40 years and I still don't know ANYTHING and that's the way it should be. Smoke them and enjoy.
Smallclub Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 … but a good example is the RGCE. I have never seen a really good looking one that screams out "incredible cigar", but have also had only stellar ones (as long as it is 3+ yrs old...) Same experience here. And there are other examples : Upmann Super Corona, Partagas lonsdales from 2001/2002 (last years of production), all with greyish rough wrappers…

Jesus... beginning to sound like one of Ken's fish stories... You know what you know? It takes a concern for quality to make a good cigar. It does not take a bank roll, a second band, a fancy box nor a limited edition! Furthermore, my friend, you know more than most of us put together! -the Pig
mbrody Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I've mentioned it to a few members before, but one of my top smoking experiences was from a 3 pack of Mag 50 tubos that reaked of barnyard and had enough mold on them that they needed a thorough wipe down and still looked tainted. The BEST tasting Mag50s Ive had and in my top 5 all time! Bring on the mold!

Rushman Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Agreed. Hell, if beauty was skin deep I'd be in deep trouble!
