For jazz, I'll have to agree w/ Trane's "Giant Steps." Excellent choice. I'll give honorable mention to Brubeck's "Take Five" w/ Paul Desmond on Alto.

For rock, while I have a sentimental attachment to anything the Big Man did w/ Bruce, I'll go for Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wild Side", which also gets my vote for "Best unfinished sax solo."

No doubt, my friend - I'm another fan of Coltrane, Parker, et al - I really love Coltrane's work with Davis - Two Bass Hit, Milestones, on and on.....
