Colt45 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 If you are smoking alone, not doing anything - no reading, computer, etc - smoking a very enjoyable cigar, after a time, do you ever feel a bit bored, kind of waiting for the cigar to burn to it's end? I'll admit that I have felt this way at times, and probably more so with larger format cigars. But perhaps it's more the situation of sitting alone with one's thoughts for an hour or two rather than the cigar itself?
Omskakas Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 If it's a great cigar (90+), then yes, sometimes. But if it's even better than that (95+), then never.
bc8436 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I've never been bored by a great cigar. With larger vitolas, I tend to have some music on and a good drink with me. However, I've had 'good' cigars (85-90) that bored me to death. I was put to sleep while smoking a BBF and Ashton ESG Churchill on separate occasions last week.
riazp Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Actually, Yes, if i'm alone I cant smoke anything that requires more than 60-70 mins, if not I tend to get bored and put out the cigar early. I tend to keep my larger cigars for when i'm going for drinks with freinds or at the driving range, fishing, ect.
CigarmanTim Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Yes. I have some incredible Party Lusi's.... I am waiting for them to end after 2 hours.... great sticks.... too much of a great thing I guess.
Wil Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Yep, which is why i stick to short and medium length sticks.
investandprosper Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Never ... I usually smoke alone. I have a few larger vitolas that I keep for afternoons when I have a few hours to myself. The Monte Sublime I smoked on the 15th was one of those cigars ... a 96 point cigar that I enjoyed every minute of. I was doing a review at the time, so other than taking notes and pictures I was alone with my thoughts. Best afternoon I've had in a while. Even 88-95 point cigars ... I usually have enough to think about where I can just relax and enjoy it. Definitely a flavor guy.

Invest, I must thank you, you've given me my remedy for larger cigar, i'll write up reviews of them and pictures! will keep my mind active and just dwell on my boring thoughts lol
aavkk Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Ross I usually smoke alone and honestly I really savor that time. If its a great cigar than it captures my attention for the length of time it takes to smoke it. With an average cigar I find my mind wandering but its still an enjoyable experience. I dont smoke bad cigars
cigcars Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Yes! Fuente Fuente Opus X! I've smoked them several times through the years...actually enjoy the other Arturo Fuente lines MORE than this vitola. It just doesn't do it for me...can't wait for it to be over. Just not happenin' on my end.
MadMax Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Yes! Fuente Fuente Opus X! I've smoked them several times through the years...actually enjoy the other Arturo Fuente lines MORE than this vitola. It just doesn't do it for me...can't wait for it to be over. Just not happenin' on my end. I'm the same way cigars! I've smoked Opus X's on and off since the day they came out, and I just don't get a thing out of them!
LeafLover Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 99% of the time, I am smoking alone- in my garage or in my backyard. Often times I finish and I feel that the cigar I smoked was mediocre in spite of the fact that the cigar is a stellar cigar by reputation and/or personal experience. I've come to the realization that at times I become bored of smoking cigars. Hundreds of times I smoke alone. Alone I may be surfing the internet or watching TV or watching a movie. But, the point is that I've done it a hundreds of times. Hence, I get into this funk when cigars just seem blah. And I remain in this funk/boredom for a while until somehow I snap out of it. Usually I snap out of it when I receive a new box of cigars. I don't know, it's almost like a relationship where there needs to be some spark or something to reignite. So why do I keep smoking when I am in a state of boredom? I'm addicted to smoking cigars. I smoke daily and even when I know I don't have time to or when I know that I'm not particularly going to enjoy it. Do I still love it? Hell yah I do. But I still have to smoke even when I know it gets old. Like all great things, it gets old and just gets to be boring until something makes you fall in love or interested in it again. Hell, driving a Ferrari loses it's excitement, having a great view out of your bedroom window becomes just a view, and Double DD's just end up looking big after a while.
bassman Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 If the cigar is boring, how can it be a great cigar?
Colt45 Posted June 26, 2011 Author Posted June 26, 2011 If the cigar is boring, how can it be a great cigar? I know it may sound like semantics, but in this scenario the cigar itself may not be boring, but rather the act of smoking it is, after a while. As Alan mentioned I also usually savor this kind of down time. I guess there are just the rare occasions where I grab a cigar thinking it's what I want to do, when I'm really not ready to make the time commitment.
Vortigan Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 No.See sig. x2 on that sig! that sums it up for me!!
MrGlass Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Another yes here, although it usually has a be one of the larger formats. Once you head beyond two hours, it is hard not to get at least a little bored at some point by it.
Fuzz Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 To be perfectly honest, I try never to smoke alone. To me, smoking is a social activity. If I don't have somebody to talk to or enjoy the experience with, it's not as enjoyable. Smoking a cigar does not make the event, it just enhances it. It's kinda like when I'm playing golf on my own. I feel like I'm just going through the motions and not having as much fun as when I'm with friends.
Wil Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Golf is a good analogy. Absolutely love it, but nothing worse than a slow round. And these comments about be a 'flavour guy', does that really distinguish you from anyone on the forum (other than the ladies, of course).
ZinZan Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I get bored on the mediocre cigars, but ton the larger format it does get a bit tiring even though its great.
bassman Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 I enjoy smoking alone. I plan my DCs & Churchills for when on a long drive, long walk or reading a good book, so as long as the cigar is good, I won't get bored. If the cigar is lousy, I have no problem with tossing it.
ksblazer Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Yes it happens to me from time to time. Not sure if my taste buds aren't working well that day or I've smoked the cigar to many times in a short period or I got a boring cigar?
