KB24 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Anyone got any thoughts on these besides the following: 1. Over-priced 2. Not as good as a CC 3. Only highly sought after as a result of Fuente's Marketing -Patrick
shrink Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Before I ever got into CC's, Fuente was one of my faves, along with Padrons. The first few Anejos I smoked really excited me, and the Shark was as good as any. Very unlike any Cuban, with it's dark bittersweet espresso flavors. I smoked an Anejo a few months ago, and really liked it. A nice change of pace. I can recommend these without reservation.
bob25 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 You can easily get them for ~$12 if you know the right people. I love them, very strong and full bodied cigar.
Whodat Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Although I've never smoked and Anejo Shark, I'm a fan on the Anejo 46. A majority of cigars in my humidor are CC's (Partagas in particular) I keep a few Anejo 46's on hand.
thechenman Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 If you want to venture into NCs, I could not recommend the Arturo Fuente Anejos highly enough. I actually prefer them over their more highly priced and coveted Opus X line of cigars. The Anejos are rich, full bodied and strong. Much stronger than you will find with CCs. They aren't anywhere near as complex as CCs, but the flavors are bold and intense. Lots of chocolate, coffee, sweet tobacco with a little berry fruitiness. My favorite is the No. 77 (Shark) followed by the No. 46 (Corona). If you like full bodied cigars that are strong you should definitely give them a try.
fred170 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Sorry mates, Nothing but CC's for me. Tried the AF Opus X and felt it was not worth the $$. I'd rather herf on a Machine made CC, than a US Domestic cigar
sloth Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 i use to like af anejos, but i have somehow "outgrew" maduros.... not many maduros i smoke anymore... i also feel that AF has, in fact, rushed the hands of time in their last few releases...
Lotusguy Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I like them, but not enough to support the price gauging by most retailers. If you can get them at or near MSRP, they are worth buying a few. The shape is pretty unique (can't taste the shape, of course ) In general, I like the Anejos over the Opus X. Construction on the ones that I've had was top-notch.
bc8436 Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I enjoy Arturo Fuente cigars. They may not offer the complex flavors of CCs but they're also more consistent. The Anejos are readily available if you search for them, the 46s (best of the line I think) can be found online for $11/stick. Even with a 30% tobacco tax here in Mass, I pay $13 per stick for the OpusX Belicoso xXx at the local B&M. Another AF cigar I enjoy from time to time is the Hemingway Short Story. If you want to talk about overpriced, try the OpusX Shark. $50 per stick.
anacostiakat Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I have lost my taste for the anejos. I have always thought that the 46 was the best of the line. Now a fuente Opus BBMF is something a little different. I still enjoy some of their products.
brutusthebuckeye Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 My local B&M gets them in and sells them and doesnt jack the prices up.... Ive smoked sharks,55,46 and a few others...they are better than the opus.... But i sold what i had left about 2 yrs ago........
jedipastor Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Anejos are amazing to me, I just love them. They are completely unique in flavor profile. At retail price, they are well worth the coin, imvho. I will say that like most Fuentes, Anejos get much better with age. Honestly, I've never gotten much out of an Anejo with less than a year on it. If someone ever offers you one from 2001-2004 or something, take them up on it ... amazing cigars! As others have said, they are a bit of a one-trick pony. But hey, if I like the flavor that doesn't bother me. I think Dipolomaticos are about as straightforward as they come in terms of flavors, but they're still great cigars (I'd say the Anejo has a bit more depth than a Diplomaticos #2, but not by a ton ... of course the Anejo is much stronger, though).
duwan Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I must say I love an Anejo every now and then. I, too, think the 46 is the best of the bunch, but I have at least a few of every size in the humi.
adic88 Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 I have a half box each of the 77s and the 48s. Havent had a stick of either for years now. Got them back in 2003? 2002? some time back then... Been looking for a way to trade them into CCs to be honest...
maverickdrinker Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 have a box of sharks and 46s that I have been sitting on for a couple of years. may need to try one this weekend to see how these are developing.
Ellery Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Picked up a couple sticks awhile back. Not impressed, found them to be 1 dimensional.
Charltonc Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I buy a box of anejo 46 every year. I only pay a 7 bucks a stick for the anejo 46. I love the flavor age them and they get better.
SmokinLightning Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 I like the Anejo line... not as "in your face" as the Opus. I'll take a Hemingway Maduro over either of them though, especially the Signature or Work of Art Maduros... mmmmm
earthson Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 I love the Anejo 48 (churchill) and 49 (double corona). Very unique raisin, nutmeg, creamy flavor profile. If you buy them at a B&M, they are usually $12 US each. Online, they are WAY overpriced. I usually only smoke CCs, but I make exception for Fuentes and Padrons. Oh, yeah - SKIP THE OPUS X.
