Doc shot us some cigars to try and come back to him (Cheers Doc).

He also sent me the following fakes which led me to an idea.

Most of you would have a fake or suspected fake in the humidor. Piggy has enough glass top Cohiba boxes to become a Glazier and I have been giving Ken fakes for years :)

For those that have a fake at home, pull it out, shoot a photo and review it between now and Sunday inthe Water Hole. Every Fake review goes into the draw for a Custom Cigar (non fake :) )

Start a new post for each review. Make sure it includes Fake in the title.

Here is what I will be working through

Here we have my 2011 EL in cellophane and the other I'm not so sure about, won't know until I smoke it.

Construction is good. band is a little off (IMO), no aroma, and it is a little too dark maybe? You can see a Padron 6000 maduro below it and they are almost the same shade (not a good sign). I'll try to smoke them both this week, but I'm not sure I'll get it done.

Pretty much all of my cigars have come from you Rob. So no entry from me, unless there's something you want to tell us? :)

Same here. Perhaps those stinking RyJ #4's I purchased from Czar were a cruel joke. If fakes are worst than them, I don't want anything to do with them.

If you've made fun of Smithy, posted snide remark about Wookiees, questioned the legitimacy of LFTH, or just generally made a nuisance of yourself then you may want to check your sticks for authenticity!

So I guess I've got some fakes. :)

That Cohiba on the right is a dead fake. The "C" in Cuba is not right, and yes, it's way to stinkin' dark :lol3:

*Well - uhm...I'm gonna have to get my more technically adept relative(s) to hook me up with the camera action! In the meantime I have a lovely "Fauhiba" Reserva 1966 thru 2007 on a black second band under the very orange section of the main band; 2 "San Questionabals" unbanded in order for them to be "brought in" easier. Smoked one, stopped after the 5th puff, gave other one to brother-in-law; 2 KOhiba pyramide 40th Anniversarias, and a Partagas 898 (I think); and another Guestplendido & a Genios all nice and together in a spare humidor. Don't even have humidification in it. Maybe I should :lol3:

I used to have a box of fake Lusitanias in the humidor, but after catching some bugs crawling out of them I tossed the box out.

LOL cig, love your summary. I have only had the one I know of from a mate who worked as a barman in the Cayman Isl some years back A shocking Fauxhiba that smelt like burning trash. Smoked it, but only in the interests of scientific discovery <_<

Good spot! That was my problem with the band, the C on Cuba.

WOW, Atchbo! If not for the ones on the end I would have ascertained a mirrored reversal of your camera...a- hem, the Heebos in the center with La Habana Cuba in reverse...! :cigar:

Unless it's glaringly obvious, I'm not good at spotting fakes. I've had cigars that I thought were fake (bands all stuck together, poorly printed or applied bands, bands that were too glossy, and sticks that just "looked" off).

But in each case I've showed friends and they thought the sticks were legit, and in each case I smoked them and they either definitely were legit or seemed to be (sometimes it's tougher to tell if you haven't had that vitola much, beyond the simple fact that it tastes like Cuban tobacco).

I hope you are all ready to get sick...I know after I post this photo no one will ever trade with me again! About 5 years ago (long before I knew about the Czar) I was desperate to get Cuban cigars. I was in Key West when I hit pay dirt (or so I thought). I spent over $5,000 on this pile of crap you see, and I couldn't understand why "Cuban" cigars tasted so bad!! I took some to Tahiti with me on a cruise and again it was like smoking a chicken bone. Finally I ordered some Hoyo DC's from a very reputable source and compared bands, sizes and tastes...what a HORRIBLE realization I had. I have a special humidor I keep these in, on the complete other side of my house from the true stash...why you ask...so I can always remember what an IDIOT I was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is what happens when you don't know what you are doing. Anyone who wants some shots of specific boxes, just let me know.

I'm speechless. :cigar: I thought I got duped when I first got into cigars. I bought some singles on a resort in Mexico. And while they smoked good, at least to my untrained palate, they sure looked and tasted different than the Cubans I bought on the way out at Duty Free. I have a few fakes I'll post photos of. A couple of RyJ "Churchills" a Cohiba Robusto and a Siglo II clone.

What you have pictured here is cringeworthy.

This is completely unfair. Most of us only smoke a couple cigars per week, maybe only one and really don't want to waste it on a genuine fake. It should be post pictures of your fakes and the person with the largest/most radical fake collection wins the cigar. Just my 2 cents :cigar:

Man, Doc, that is a horrible story. Sorry to hear this, enough to make a man cry.

Holly smokers, Doc. That's one tough beat. Although, the white boxes look like the 'Diplomatic' Cohibas that have popped up in other posts.

Got into Cuban Cigars after I bought some fake Cohibas from a guy in Miami in July 2009 and was told about it, so I educated myself on all things Cuban and here I am. Here is a box I bought :)

LOL. Pres, Doc and I just did a trade for a 1/2 dozen different sticks or so, and he also gratiously :) sent me a bag of these exact same 4 fakes that you have shown here.

Once the weather clears, I told Doc, I plan on actually spending an evening to do a full review to post up on here, with details observed from these nasty four. I must say, that looking at those bands, the counterfeit properties were quite prevalent. Especially, with that Cuaba one (did you smell that nasty, foul thing at cold?!!?!), the format is nothing like what the actual cigar is (piramide anyone?), and the band is very horribly done.

Looks like my Monte 2 is in slightly better shape than the one he sent you, although not by much. It's always a good trait of fakes, and the treat that you're in for, when they start to disintegrate and unravel on their own, before you even have the chance to put flame to them! :P
