PLUSH Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 We are expecting a baby in August. I am looking to buy a box or boxes of a cigar I can smoke each year on his/her birthday until they are 18, then pass the box onto them when they turn 18 to continue this experience with them. Then have more to share each year going forward. Couple of questions. What would you buy? I want this to be a special cigar, so I'm think maybe Behike. But that would require like 5 boxes (18 to smoke, 10 to give to them, plus the others to smoke going forward). Any other ideas?
MrGlass Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hoyo De Monterrey Le Hoyo Des Dieux. After the video review Ken and Rob did, it sounds like it would be an exceptional cigar to put away for these occasions. And a fraction of the cost of the Behike. Oh, and Congratulations!
Colt45 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 For me, the occasion would make the cigar, so any I like would be special and worthy. That said, it might require a cigar that would stand that much time - the first that comes to mind is the Upmann Sir Winston. Congrats
silvano10 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I would go with a box of cohibas... either robustos or esplendidos
mkz Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hoyo De Monterrey Le Hoyo Des Dieux. My response to. I´ve put down a request for Lisa to find me a box of the Deux with my baby girls birth-month. However Im not going to touch them until she can share them with me (atleast 16).
Habanakane21 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I agree with the H Upmann. The investment in the Sir Winstons will be more than worth as each birthday rolls around. Great idea. I've been trying to locate any 2 cigars from 1995, the year my first daughter was born. I have 2 cigars from 1998 RyJ Prince of Wales, the year my son was born. I'm planning on sharing them with each of my kids at some significant time in their lives. I always have cigars set aside for each of their wedding days. Best Wishes!
brutusthebuckeye Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I second or was it third the Sir Winnies.... I have a box thats for my sons birthdays(number 2 in Oct)...great cigar...

Though I'm not sure if they'll still be as great when they're 18, but you never know.
cigcars Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 *Rafael Gonzales Coronas Extra because they'll be SURE to be aged as per the box instructions when you make them last for 18 years!
cgarner Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Another vote for the Sir Winston, but that is just my personal opinion. I would say get whatever cigar you like and is special. Not a everyday smoke but something you really cherish.
Habanos2000 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Forget about buying something you're not smoking now. I'd recommend you put away a box of whatever it is you are currently really enjoying, something that you can come back to in 18 years and say, "I loved this cigar when you were born!", that to me would be a special cigar.
Tarks Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 You need to put away a cigar that has aging potential and a cigar you love. I don't see the point in putting something away for 18 years that you haven't tried or don't love. Having said that, what are favorites?
cigaraholic Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 You want something special, but you don't know weather it's a girl or a boy so you need something ladylike. I would get a box or two of Cohiba Coronas Especiales, a great cigar with a ring gauge that's bisexual.
Wil Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 A lot to be said for going with what you know. What's your favourite cigar?
CanuckSARTech Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hmmmm. Bisexual ring-gauges. Who knew??? For me, regarding suggestions on this, I'd say a nice LE from the year/month of the birth - so, you have that nice added touch of the LE band with the year on it. Drawback is, is that the LE's from recent years have been fairly bleh. My son was born in July 2008 - I've got a couple of boxes of Cuaba Piramides EL 2008 (EMA July 2008) boxes squirrelled away somewhere outside of my normal stock, to crack into in a few years.
CBL Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 It totally depends, what was the cigar you were enjoying before, during or right after conception? I'm also kinda for a LE box as it has the extra advantages of being something your son or daughter won't be able to find in the shops at that time. The added year band around the box and around the cigar is also a nice extra touch. But seriously, any box should be fine. A nice handwritten note on the inside will make the moment even more special especially if you can resist on opening the box for those 18 years.
soltino Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Another vote here for buying something that you know you like rather than an EL/Behike. Makes a lot of sense... although the date band on the EL would actually be a very nice touch...
ajgagnon Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Well, my tastes may not be as extravagant, but I was thinking El Rey Del Mundo Choix Supreme... even just for the namesake of feeling on top of the world! Congrats!

I would love to hear between what ring gauges a cigar is considered bi-sexual.
PLUSH Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 A lot to be said for going with what you know. What's your favourite cigar? Favorite? Not really sure. I have smoke one Sir Winnie, not sure of the year, but it was great. I have more PSD4 that anything else right now, of course that is only 2 boxes. There is so much that I have not smoked. What I like are the PSD4, RASS, ERDM CS. are you seeing a trend here. Mostly have only went with robusto, can get a box for a good price.
