Australia Day here and a national public holiday where the country fires up the BBQ, chills some beverage, sets up the backyard cricket pitch and hosts friends and family to celebrate all that is great about living in this magnificent land :D

What is it to be an Australian?

For each of us it is something a little bit different.

What I enjoy most is our sense of egalitatianism. From our convict past to the masses of people who came here for a new start and to build something better. It has lead to a national suspicion of authority/govt and a deep seated belief to help the "battler". This was seen at its best 8 days ago with 100,000 + volunteers turning up and helping clean the houses of strangers affected by floods.

We love our sport, laugh a little too loud, drink a little too much, have our own sense of humour which can certainly lack tact, we love the outdoors the beauty of which we are blessed in abundance. Our climate is second to none, our governments competent when compared to others, we are free from war or bitter infighting, lifestyle is laid back, our kids grow up outdoors and safe.

God bless Australia and to all Aussies out there...HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY :P

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY to you and your family too Rob!

Happy Australia day to all!! :P

I think you covered it all very well mate, we do have a great nation one which is multicultural, war free and one beautiful big island on the planet which we can call our very own.

There's a lot to love but I think the main thing that stands out for me is the way people pull together to help each other out in time of need and that's not just for our own countrymen, but for many nations who have gone through some tough times.

Today I'll have a get together with my family, heading off to a mates place for....you guessed it, a BBQ, drinks, loads of laughter, cigars and more drinks.

Have a great day everyone and be well. :D

Yes, I'll drink to that but, above all, celebrating a country that has been built not only on tough & hard times

Belated happy Oz Day.

Here we celebrated a little late - on Friday. Had a big p!ss up at the Ozzie Embassy.

A bunch of us went for a walk after that, trying to decide where to go. But due to the minus 20C weather we were forced to take refuge in the first strip joint we came across.

Must've been warm in there, as the next thing I remember I'm walking in the door of my flat at 8 in the morning!

Australia Day well spent!
