Sorry for the loss of your friend, he sounds like an interesting chap.  On a lighter note, love the pup...He looks to be welded to your lap, well done rescuing him!

Condolences on the loss of your good friend Ray.

Fantastic review of a cigar that took me many years to really appreciate. The fault was all mine.

Piggy... What year were these. Been smoking '08's.

Would love to help you my friend but since this review was done 7 years ago, I am quite sure that this box now likely holds pencils or USB charging cables by now. These were likely early 2K, maybe 2002 to 2006.

I never have a shortage of these cigars and I may still have some '01 lurking as well as strays from the 90's, through the 2000's and now even into the 2010's. It is just a habit to be buying cigars today to smoke tomorrow.

I damn sure wish I had a lot more of the '01's...

Very nice review Piggy (so you were doing that back in the day... :)) and great little dog! For the ignorant folks out there - never underestimate the small, hairy tykes! Often there's still more wolf to them than to the big 'horses'. Don't judge a man by his shoes, judge him by his dogs...:D

I know Rob likes to let the sit a bit before smoking. Piggy, how long do you like to let yours sit or age after arrival?

I typically let a cigar sit a year before smoking any. This is actually a considerable handicap for estimating quality, but a cigar smoked off the truck is generally a cigar wasted (MHO).

As 'cigar climatology' is my forte, I prefer letting a cigar almost certainly dry to the level of my smoking stock percent moisture content before I smoke it. I see that as the way to get the most flavor from them and then as the only means as a fair comparison to what I am currently smoking.

Today I smoke cigars ranging from 10 to about 18 years old.

I do buy some newer stock but I have been dampened by the fact that a lot of them are under-filled when compared to the same vitola from 15 or more years ago.

Cheers! -Piggy
