El Presidente Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I had an e-mail from a UK member this morning asking my opinion on the El Rey Del Mundo Demi Tasse. As it is a cigar that I would only smoke a handful of times a year I really am not in the best position to give an opinion. For those who do smoke them regularly or at least recently, what is your opinion? I appreciate the input
PigFish Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 I have always loved them! They are (were) second string to the Bolivar Demi Tasse (MHO) and behind the du Depute, but I have always enjoyed them none the less! Hope that helps… -Piggy
UpInSmoak Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Excellent little cigar for when I only have 25-40 mins to smoke. They look smaller than you'd expect, but can last 40 mins or so if you take your time.
Rushman Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 For the right time and place a great little cigar. When we had them in the shop, and it's been a while since then, it was one of my go to breakfast cigars.
Smallclub Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I love them, I have smoked many many boxes, but I must admit that the quality is not always there; sometimes they are emaciated and agressive… Anyway I rarely smoke them fresh, usually I put the boxes in the bottom of a "whateverdor" and try to forget about them for a couple years… When they're good they really are a treat, if you take your time — don't think about them as a 10 mn smoke, once they get, hot they taste terrible. Aged and vintage, they are fantastic. 2
Lotusguy Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I really enjoy them - I get about 25-30 minutes out of one.
Skyfall Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Oddly, I like them. It's one of the only "skinny" cigars I like.
finecigar Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Agreed with piggy... I used to smoke the Bolivar DT but now get a few boxes a year of these ERdM as I find them full flavor and complex. Can be harsh and iffy when young but also surprising. A solid year and a half helps to get them going. A beautiful smoke as they are not to be underestimated. Love them for only a 20-25 min time break. Nice after lunch or morning smoke that pairs well with herbal green teas. Hints of fruit, hay and cedar
Maplepie Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Huh. There's a Bolivar Demi Tasse...... Time to search the ends of the world for that one! ERdM DT IMHO is what the norm says: young is smokable. Aged is covetable. They're one of the more easily found vintage smokes so they're pretty cheap aged, too. Oddly enough, they're pretty damn inconsistent. Even stick - stick from one box may taste completely off... Weird, eh? There's always the Lunch Club. Another great ERdM that fits into the same profile! Anyone have words on those, too?
Hohenthal Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I love them, I have smoked many many boxes, but I must admit that the quality is not always there; sometimes they are emaciated and agressive… Anyway I rarely smoke them fresh, usually I put the boxes in the bottom of a "whateverdor" and try to forget about them for a couple years… When they're good they really are a treat, if you take your time — don't think about them as a 10 mn smoke, once they get, hot they taste terrible. Aged and vintage, they are fantastic. Exactly this, haven't tried younger than '05 yet, but I have an 09 box as well, will dip into that and see... Would be interested to hear about really recent ones myself. Cheers, Alex
MrDowse Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Love them. Down to my last couple from a 2004 box i picked up in spain last year which have been excellent. i just picked up another box although sadly these are 2013 production so I'll try and let them rest a while (warmer weather in the UK now so more chance to smoke bigger cigars!) Skyfall Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 It makes me sad to think I will be running out of my aged ones soon.
Smallclub Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Huh. There's a Bolivar Demi Tasse...... There WAS a Bolivar demi tasse, unfortunately... In the same size you can easily get the RyJ petit julieta (stronger than the ERDM) and the Hoyo du Maire (I never liked it).
tippexx Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 Great little smoke OK to smoke now and which 'should' age well. I say 'should' because the best one I ever smoked was 20 years old and boxed in 1991, but the tobacco and fermentation process were different back then, so no absolute guarantee anymore.

Aged and vintage, they are fantastic. I am working on my first box over this past winter time, aggressive yes I agree. It really packs a flavor punch. I still have about half left which I wont touch until next winter, so we'll see how they settle in.

In the same size you can easily get the RyJ petit julieta (stronger than the ERDM) and the Hoyo du Maire (I never liked it). Naturally, my Feisty French Friend Always considered the Boli to be one of my favourite marcas. DT adds to something I'll really want to get now. Considering how great the ERdM DT, RyJ petit julieta, and HoyodM Du Maire have been for me! Try the Hoyo Du Maire from an early 13 box code and then see if you like them! Washed with Sprite, they tasted like watermelons! Much better than any Du Maire from '99, 06, and 12 Sent from my BlackBerry Q10 using Tapatalk for Android. 1
subport Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 I hated them fresh but turning into great great smoke after 2-3 + yrs. Went through 2 boxes of '10 and they were hit and miss. 5 plugs at least out of each. Maybe few tastless duds otherwise liked them. For the size theres not much of a competition. Would personaly go up to minutos in size cuz there are unbeatble sticks there. But really not a bad cigar. Great when its on.
dvickery Posted April 23, 2014 Posted April 23, 2014 these and joyitas serve a purpose ... for me . derrek
Maplepie Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Washed with Sprite..... not soaked prior to lighting! i meant: paired with sprite..... hahahahaha
tmac77 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Bought a box recently in Cuba and found them to be a bit harsh will let them sit for a while and see if they turn around as noted by others above.
westg Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I really like them ..good for parties when you have to escape out the front and have a quick cigar , not at my party though.
BonVivant Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 three years on it and those are ready to go, patience exercised???? and those are classics
