Where can I get one of those coffee tables?

One of those fine coffee tables can be bought at your local fish tackle shop, look in the area of the shop called 'Eskies'

As for my shirt, it is not a Wiggle that Ken seems obsessed with, I think that has something to do with him and little children. But rather an image from one of the seminal artists of the late 20th century Andy Warhol.

It is Elvis

i'm obsessed? you keep wearing it! and how has a blob on a shirt got anything to do with warhol - i make no comment on your idolising a certain type of lifestyle, not that there is anything wrong with that - or elvis is beyond me.

and the said coffee table, not by warhol, is available but very expensive. or you could get a new one as smmithy says.

"Looks like a lit penis" LMAO

I wouldn't know Rob, but you might. Does it taste like one too?

I said "Limp" ...."Limp"....not "Lit"

The review process is certainly a lot of fun and we ejoy doing it. I must say that in the review series we have conducted so far there has not been a great deal of diagreement amongst the tasters.

We talk our way through the reviews as it should be. A group of mates enjoying each others company and looking for the best in each cigar. If its a dud...call it. If it has some redeeming features..mention it. I look forward to next Tuesdays reviews!

Sincere thanks for the honesty of the review - having said that - the way you have run your business from the 1st time I was introduced to youse guys - it is certainly not surprising that you called out the cigar as you found it - in spite of the fact that your own interests are served through the promotion and sale of cigars.

The disapointing thing here is that so few of your fellow retailers can be counted on to deal so honestly when discovering a dud cigar....

I also share my friend Wikey's disapointment, that such a stalwart producer (and a personal sentimental favourite) such as RyJ could not be counted on to come up with a very good smoking experience.

As promised, I pulled out my recently acquired box of RyJ Ex.4 last evening. The factory code was different from that reviewed. I made a note of it, but forgot to bring my note with me to the office this morning. As I recall it was AO_ DIC 06. Can't specifically recall the second and third letters of the factory code, but I am sure the first letter is an A.

I am pleased to say that the sample from my box was not a dud. In fact, it was a quite enjoyable, three smoke-ring cigar. It had some complexity. Started in the full side of medium bodied, then fell off to under medium, only to recover to at least medium at the nub. There was just a little acride taste near the end of the first 1/3, but that quickly disappeared. I got hints of leather and some stewed fruit.

It's interesting to me that Rob, Ken and Smithy unanimously hated their samples, and I can't account for the fact that mine was a quite decent smoking experience -- unless they got a bad box, or inferior tobacco was supplied for the batch made at the factory where theirs was rolled.

Obviously, I would steer away from the specific factory and date of the boys' samples, but I would not avoid buying another box of RyJ Exh. 4 from other factories and dates.

Thanks for this post...I was heartened to read your findings..... :cigar:

Sounds like a box I got from a "friend" in Cyprus!

Okay... vendor humor, possible bad taste, I'll stop now!

You know Rob I got a little marketing/fun gimmick for you. You should consider scheduling your reviews and offering some Review bundles. That way a few of us straights can keep you honest and smoke the cigars when you do. It would be fun!

Tell me you have not already thought of this. -Piggy

I think I went out of my way to point out that I have had plenty of great R&J Exhibicion No 4's. This box was poor but I in no way did I want to slander the whole Exhibicion No 4 reputation.

I think I also pointed out that the Exhibicion No 4 has sufferred from severe inconsistency for some time. I feel it suffers from a hell of a lot of "lack of love" from the factory level. I would inspect a case of these boxes each month. Over the last 4 years I would sample 3-5 E4 a month and always fresh from whatever factory and year made up the shipment.

I can tell you now that no ohter cigar coming out today has such variability. From excellent to putrid. It is not a factory issue (checked). It is not a year issue (not restricted to any particular year).

The question I have for HSA is why if I open up a Mastercase of R&J Short Churchills I would see remarkable consistency withing the shipment. Lets say an average deviation from the mean (quality/wrapper/construction) of 10%. Do the same for R&J Exhibicion No 4 and it is 30%-40% (just making a point here based on experience...not hard figures).

To me there is a lack of passion (or has been) for the making of some cigars. R&J E4 is one of them.

When in Havana in a few weeks I will try to get to the bottom of it with a litle help from some friends.

Seriously gents coming from a novice I love the honesty in the reviews.

As a newcomer to the game it helps me decide what to look for in a cigar and more

importantly what I should be getting from said cigar.

Keep up the good work. :mob: Although I dare say you guys will keep me broke. :P

I too am smoking out of an 05 dress box that are really on, or maybe I'm just easy.

Don't back peddle now Rob... these cig'rz are dead now baby! -LOL

I will likely encounter some resistance here but I have had a poor opinion of CC robustos and H4's for many years now. As the of '06 I have just begun to start smoking a few 46+ rings again and that includes the "pointy" ones.

I think that anyone who has been around awhile knows there will be dead boxes. From a consumer perspective it really sucks! I had a box of '98 LGC Sabrosos that tasted like smoking dusty air. I tossed what I finally gave up on. "Common" is the term I use for a cigar or box that is average. We all have them in our humidors and at times we pull one out, for me it is a morning smoke to enjoy with coffee.

Like people cigars are individuals, all with personalities of their own. In a common box you will likely find siblings, similar but still different. I say go ahead and condemn the RyJ EX4!!!! -LOL But most realize that even the harshest critic will pick one up now and again to see if they have been missing anything!

You are not alone - I'm not the biggest robusto fan either. Long ago it was a "go to" format, but over time

I've grown away from it. I'll take a good corona gorda any day.

I could live on churchills, corona gordas, and dalias.

And parejos and carlotas.

And..........

It was the '06 Boli RC that even got me even thinking about robustos again. I must admit though, being a cheap bastard I get really the most satisfaction out of the petit corona. Right size, right taste not enough to get you bored. Want more, light up another!

I have added very few 44+ ring cigars to my smoking over the past 5 years. The flavor concentration is just not there. Life can start and stop at 42 ring as far as I am concerned. Cervantes/Dalias by far my favorites. Cheers, Piggy

Rob,

Seeing as how it makes sense that choicer tobaccos might be directed toward the higher profit vitolas, could it be possible that some long time vitolas become repositories for the "left over, doesn't really fit anywhere else tobacco but we've got to stuff it somewhere as it's too good for the short filler sticks?"
