shrink Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Tonight I was taken completely by surprise. Transported to that rare, soaring, and special state of mind where only the very finest Habanos will take you… Ninety minutes of reverie, and pure hedonistic pleasure. The Piramide was sheathed in a smooth, golden brown wrapper, lightly glowing with oils, densely packed and uniformly firm as I rolled it between my fingers. The scent was all sweet cocoa and exotic wood. I clipped it short, providing a small oval through which I found a perfect resistive draw… I toasted the foot, and took the first full puffs. Immediately, I knew that this was going to be something very special. Instead of the spice that I expected, there was nothing but sweet nectar. The sweetness of honeysuckle, set against a background of sweet wood. From that moment, the cigar had my complete, and utterly rapt attention. It took me where it wanted to go; I simply followed. All I had to do was smoke it. Amazing and unexpected flavors; the taste of baby carrots sauteed in honey butter. Bits of dried apricot. Ripe canteloupe, dripping with juice. Soft Scottish butterscotch candy, melting in my mouth. And the sweet, lingering aftertaste of caramel between each slow and measured draw. The quintessential smoking experience. All the way to the last inch, nothing harsh, nothing bitter, not even a hint of sourness; all the way to an exquisite, nubbed finish. I strugged to find a comparison… The only cigar that I have smoked this year that came even close was a 1997 Cohiba Lancero. Very similar in the finish, like a rich crème caramel or flan. Almost as smooth as the Lancero, but even more complex, and lush, with the fruit nectars playing against the core of sweet wood. Can you guess what piramide I was smoking? What year? I’d like to know what you think, before I reveal the identity.
El Presidente Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 P2 06 Late Either Jan/Feb/Mar or NOV DIC.
broozer Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 i'll go with an Upmann #2 or DIP #2. no idea of the year, but i'd guess it's at least 3-4 years old. bruce
tigger Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Terrific review! Fair sure I'm wrong, but I'll guess late 90's Dip NO.2
anacostiakat Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Because you expected spice I would say P2 as well.
pnutbutrsangwich Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I'll bite... Monte #2? As for year... hmmm how bout 1998?
Professor Twain Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 I'll guess an 06 Dip 2. The flavors are most like Dip, and I know that you have a thing going for 06 cigars. Thanks for the review.
Mel Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 If you say PSP2 I will no longer trust your reviews.;-) Really guys I can not learn to place this cigar above the 90 mark. Cohiba CRS?
shrink Posted September 12, 2007 Author Posted September 12, 2007 If you say PSP2 I will no longer trust your reviews.;-) Really guys I can not learn to place this cigar above the 90 mark. Cohiba CRS? Mel, you have the palate of a billy goat... Yep, it's a P2! This beauty was from a 10-box, dated FIM ENE05. The first month of issue, from the 'first charge' of this vitola. This particular box had light wrappers. And the profile, while recognizably Partagas, was quite atypical. The fruity 'nectars', and caramel-like finish were simply extraordinary. I have smoked all of the Piramides, and some have been great, but this one topped 'em all. A great, great cigar.

See the trend for me. Glad you love em Bob enjoy mate.:-D
Loki Posted September 12, 2007 Posted September 12, 2007 Hey Bob I had 2 , 10 count boxes of PSP2 OWH MAR 05 , one had dark wrappers and the other had light wrappers. I smoked up the dark ones and left the light ones untouched. I planned on waiting 5 years but after reading your review I will have to try one now. My favorite stick this year was a 1998 Trinidad Fundadore that I purchased in Toronto when they were first released. It was simply phenominal. I'd rate it a 95/100.

I have five left from the same box code (but with very dark EL-like wrapper) and I agree with you, these have been incredible and like you, I think it is easily the best regular production no.2 from Cuba. I also have partial 25 count boxes from Mar05, JUN05, and NOV05 and although they are all outstanding, none come close to the flavors of the ENE05 box.
Ken Gargett Posted September 23, 2007 Posted September 23, 2007 shrink, after this, i pulled out one from a 10 pack from ABR 05. spot on. a cracker. will review soon. i will no longer believe all the nasty things rob says about you.

I had two boxes of the Seleccion Pyramids and a 10-box of Monte No.2 with the same box code two years ago. They were by far the best cigars I have ever had. The Seleccion Pyramids were characterized by a beautiful floral honeysuckle and cedar bouquet. And the Monte No.2 were like smoking red roses. They are the crack of the cigar world. I feel like I will never again have the same out of this world experience. They are my benchmark to a perfect score. If you ever come across a FIM NOV or OCT '05 box code you must never hesitate
GoSteelers Posted September 26, 2008 Posted September 26, 2008 I think this review was ripped straight from the pages of Penthouse Forum with just a subtle rewording.:-D
