What is the best piece of advice ever given toyou ?

Always remember two that dad told me:

You must always remember there's two things you can't take back - a spent arrow and the spoken word.

Don't trust anyone who wears a robe :lol2:

Any other pearls? We could use them in our book.

Mine might sound abit over the board but here is how it goes

Never fight unless you are prepared to kill:-(

Never tell your misses you lied unless you are prepared for the nagging over a lifetime:-P

Three steps to survive life:

1) Get UP

2) Get up & DO SOMETHING

3) Get up, do something & MAKE IT COUNT

And one more from a friend of mine in NZ :

" Life is a mystery to be lived not a puzzle to be solved "

A woman may go to great lengths to catch you, (told to me by my dad):-)

BUT may barely put up an effort to keep you. (added by me years latter):-(

Graciously accept the problems that come with success. They are infinitely preferable to those that accompany failure.

Courage is not the absence of fear. Courage is the determination to do one's duty in spite of fear.

my favorite quote from my dad:

"the difference between a man and a boy is ... a boy will never accept responsibility for his actions. It is always someone else's fault. A man acknowledges his failings and takes full responsibility for them."

or something like that!!!

you are priceless! is there anything you will not steal? that has come straight from alan jones' speech to the wallabies before they took the field for the final game in the grand slam tour of 1984 (against scotland from memory). shameless!!

and would that be the same fictional dad who featured in the sobstory you told merls to get your lease? the one on whose knee you would sit on a sunday arvo as he clipped his partagas for the week (and was later found to be a non smoker). tears to a glass eye.

A couple that I always tried to follow:

"Never demand perfection of yourself, simply demand the best that you can possibly give!"

"Always respect all people, from the floor cleaners to the CEO, because when you need something desperately, you usually need to rely on the people under you more than you rely on the people above you"

"Always feel gratefull for what you have! Never be jelous of what you dont!"

Ross...

You are going to make mistakes in life. I will be there to help and hope you don’t make the same mistake twice. Because if you do. I will put you in the ground and have another that looks just like you!

Dad always beats around the bush.

Dear Mr Gargett

It may come as a huge surprise but all quotes did not originate from Rugby or cricket.

The quote in question:

"Four things come not back: the spoken word, the spent arrow, the past, the neglected opportunity."

-Omar Idn Al-Halif

It is possible that Allan Jones read it on the toilet door in England but more likely he just had a book of famous quotes.

I miss my dad greatly. Your slandering of him was cruel and unnecessary but competely in charachter.

My Dad's favourite quote when I was young (& causing grief)was

" I brought you into this world, boy & I'll take you out! "

"work is like a treefull of monkeys, some climbing up, some falling down.

The monkeys at the top look down and see nothing but smiling faces.

The monkeys at the bottom look up and see nothin but assholes.

This basically sums up life:

"Never play cards with a guy named Doc. Never eat at a place called Mom's. And never have sex with anybody who has more problems than you do."

Follow this advice, all should be fine and dandy.:ok:

thanks lisa. was aware of that and going to suggest to rob that if he missed his dad so much, he should pop round the corner more often and see him. tell him to take a partagas on sit on his dad's knee. fantasies do come true.

and rob should know thsat rugby is a metaphor for life (i would say sport but perhaps not just at the moment).
