El Presidente Posted March 17 Posted March 17 This series to explore whether a particular cigar is humidor worthy. Cost these days is an issue for many so let's see if we can highlight some absolute standouts. This should particularly assist those new to the cigar world. To be fair, most of the cigars we have featured to date have scored exceptionally well. Surprisingly well! Scoring is: 1-3 (Poor) 4-6 (Average to good) 7-10 (very good to excellent) Use the Poll. The Montecristo Double Edmundo (50 × 155 mm (6⅛″) Robusto Extra) was released 2013 with quite some fanfare. For some reason I wasn't all that blown away at the time but this is one cigar that has grown on me over the years. It was interestingly described to me last December, by someone I respect, as the Upmann Sir Winston of Montecristo. Now when I pushed back, he explained that he meant that in terms of class, DNA respect to the Monte Marca and general QC consistency. On reflection he had some valid points. I can't recall ever having a poor Montecristo Double Edmundo. On average they have been in the 91 - 94 point category. So they should be at $32 USD + a cigar. Your thoughts? Have your say! Today: Montecristo Double Edmundo. Let's kick off the discussion Let us know in this thread 2
Popular Post Li Bai Posted March 17 Popular Post Posted March 17 I love those, they can be hit or miss at times but when they're on, they're among the best cigars out there. Humidor worthy for sure but when I purchase a box, I always do with extra caution👍 5
Garand Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Really good cigar. Montecristo on Steroids! Love them with a dark wrapper. 3
joeypots Posted March 17 Posted March 17 One of my favorites. The size is close to my heart, 50 X 6. Not too, too big and not too small. 4
Popular Post Puros Y Vino Posted March 17 Popular Post Posted March 17 I remember trying these in Havana in 2013. A bunch of us were down for the Partagas Fest. We split a box IIRC and none of us were impressed. To me, it was devoid of any character. It smoked like a rolled up newspaper. So, after that I never really bothered with them again. In the Monte Edmundo lineup, the Petit is king followed by the regular Edmundo. The Grand Edmundo as an EL was great too. 5

I'm so glad you posted this before I did. 😂 I think we took another pass in 2014 if I recall, and it was still the wet cardboard, burning paper profile. Everything else we were smoking was pretty lights out, even the bathroom Cohibas. 4
Popular Post BrightonCorgi Posted March 17 Popular Post Posted March 17 Compared to other Sublime size cigars, the Double Edmundo is right in there and solid value. I'm a fan. I'd go for the Libertadores instead though. 5

No one in that room (Partagas VIP) thought much of it. 3
Popular Post Dlowil Posted March 17 Popular Post Posted March 17 I had my first one ROTT last year and it was a rich chocolate bomb for 1h:45 mins straight. It was my second Cuban cigar ever. Needless to say it supercharged my new found love. While others have been good I haven’t matched the first one since. They are still humidor worthy. 5

The great thing about it for me is its a casual cigar, can be passed around in social setting because its easy to enjoy and is testament to its prestigious marca. 2

Makes a ton of smoke and easy to enjoy. 4
westg Posted March 18 Posted March 18 They can be very good. They will test you. Everything I have purchased in a box has looked a little ordinary and smoked magnificently. Anything I have purchased in Tubos or cardboard packaging has looked sensational...sheen, construction, feel, aroma...and smoked terribly. Love the size. I would prefer an Upmann 50 or Quai d'Orsay 52, Hoyo de Monterrey Especiales over the MDE. 2
Chibearsv Posted March 18 Posted March 18 I’m in the unimpressed camp. I’d take Edmundo over DE every time. Every DE I’ve had has just been dull. They’re an ok smoke if you’re doing something else too. 2
jaiden Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Am I the only one who thinks that Double Edmundo and Edmundo are not as good as the Wide Edmundo?😂 1

I have never heard that. Double Edmundo > Edmundo > Petit Edmundo. Although I have to stay, the yellow band just sucks. 1
