Popular Post ha_banos Posted Saturday at 12:50 PM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 12:50 PM I told coach last night that I hit 100kg/220lb finally. He looked a bit confused then asked, bench press? No. I hit that years ago .. body weight. Cholesterol is up. I'm like 5'7. Measured waist at belly button at 118.5cm. I do work out. Hyrox express last night. I'm just the slowest 😊 Heart rate this morning 54. I drink every night at home. Have done for a long time. 2-5 units. Erm with crisps. Habitual. This is actually going to be the hardest part. Approach to Christmas didn't help 😋 Wife went into overdrive and put me on porridge with agave. I had to explain the liver's response to both alcohol and fructose to stay on eggs this morning. First target, 90kg/198lb, 100cm round the belly. Can't wait for the annual forum comp! Eggs butter bit o cheese avocado olives to start the day. I could eat like this all the time. No issues there. And being guided by Gemini who is annoying but the science and detail geeks me out which is good! I hate not relaxing with a beer and a whisky. Oolong tea and sparkling water no Bueno! 😂 10 1
Popular Post Chibearsv Posted Saturday at 02:08 PM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 02:08 PM I started a plan 3 years ago at 6’5” and 268 to lose 2 lbs a month to get to 240. I easily lost weight on schedule for the first 6 months but stalled and changed the monthly loss goal as needed to continue the progress. I've found that setting new ceilings on the way down worked for me to allow for bumps on holidays and dinners out without feeling that I failed. Every 5 lbs down created a new ceiling. I now weigh 215. This is where I’ll keep it with a ceiling of 220. Best of luck to you. I relate my story just to say, slow and steady worked for me. Made it easier to make very minor changes in diet and activity to keep progressing down and keep it there. 8 2
Popular Post griller Posted Saturday at 02:14 PM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 02:14 PM I'm in your corner @ha_banos. Turned 55 this year & lost my Dad at 81 this past Valentine's Day after a 10+ year health decline that was greatly exacerbated by diabetes. He was a college football player & had always been big and never could beat being obese with a carb addiction. I'm about 265 lbs and 6 feet tall and while I'm still active with boxing and 35 minute walks 5 days/week, I'm pre-diabetic with high blood pressure and weekend eating habits that aren't the best. Happy to support & motivate you in any way that could be helpful as I'll be making changes come Monday the 4th. It's now or I'm looking at diabetes which was really rough on my dad... Good luck & trust the new regimen will lead to better habits and better overall health. 5
ha_banos Posted Saturday at 05:33 PM Author Posted Saturday at 05:33 PM 2018 I last managed a 12kg weight loss down from around 98/97kg. And it crept back when the habits crept back in again. Giving up alcohol was the main reason/achievement again there. Took a few months off and the weight was shifting quite fast. Generally I'm in good shape. No blood pressure or sugar issues. The cholesterol readings will drop so I'm not worried about anything. Just the inflated belly and moobs need to go lol. There's likely a good deal of visceral fats around my liver. Liver was fine when scanned a couple years or so ago. So it's really just a reset. I'll keep lifting and exercising. I'll even start running a little outside of the gym to help shift some of this. Keep moving folks. I'll track the stats because seeing the weight and tape measure moving does help the motivation. For those interested I'm reading how the liver basically has to process the alcohol first so always having alcohol in the system means mostly being in fat storage mode dealing with food. And as I was drinking daily I'm not helping the processes! So must stop drinking alcohol to get to an efficient rate of fat loss. Unfortunately. And I know I'm being impatient with it. So needs must! I'd like to work out if I'm at say 20-30% efficiency up till now if I move to 70-80% and see the fat loss I can work from there. Thanks brothers. 4
Popular Post Ford2112 Posted Saturday at 06:45 PM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 06:45 PM I am down to 212 pounds. At one point I was 255. I am 5'10". My goal is 190. I have zero clue what that means in kilograms 😄! Good on anyone trying to better their health. I have altered my diet greatly and as a diabetic I needed to kick myself in the butt. 6
Popular Post chasy Posted Saturday at 07:55 PM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 07:55 PM Haven’t had a drink in 7 months and it’s astonishing what a cheat code it is. 6
Popular Post Islandboy Posted Saturday at 07:57 PM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 07:57 PM I can’t really recommend this, unless the shoe fits, but having recently divorced after 33 years, followed by having the good fortune to meet someone who shares the same zest for life as I, has given me the motivation to adopt healthier habits across the board. At 6’4” I was 258 lbs at my Dr checkup in the beginning of December, with cholesterol fairly high. I just weighed in after my morning bike ride at 235 lbs, not far from my goal of 225. Eating healthy hasn’t been much of a problem for me in recent years, I just need to eat less of it, and consume alcohol in moderation. All that seems to be happening pretty naturally for me at 64. It’s hard to describe how much better I feel physically (and about life in general ) in just 5-6 weeks of taking much better care of myself, this really should be motivation enough for any one of us. Best of luck! 6
BrightonCorgi Posted Saturday at 08:21 PM Posted Saturday at 08:21 PM Best of luck on your healthy eating journey. 1

Just checked. That's a 30kg loss your aiming for. I'm going for a modest 10 for starters, 15 would be better. Let's see! 1
Popular Post JohnS Posted Saturday at 09:11 PM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 09:11 PM For me, losing the weight isn't the difficult thing, it's maintaining the weight loss. I've been able to lose weight a number of times in the past but I've always put it pack on, usually due to eating poorly and stress. Sometimes I've kept the weight off for years but the thing about weight gain is that it happens very, very fast initially. It's easy to put on 5 kilograms (or 8 or 9 pounds) in the month around Christmas, for example. Right now, I'm losing weight again but taking @El Presidente's advice. That is, weigh yourself once a week, walk a lot, eat healthier. Simple stuff isn't it? But not always easy to do. 8
Popular Post Boss Hog Posted Saturday at 09:57 PM Popular Post Posted Saturday at 09:57 PM Gone are the days of discussing Winstrol or Deca-Durabolin at the local gym. Body by Ozempic is now the big craze over here. 🤣 Staying away from the hooch is my problem. It’s a work in progress. I swear. 😉 5

ha_banos Posted Sunday at 12:33 AM Author Posted Sunday at 12:33 AM Admittedly I'm impatient to get going. So I'm trying to maximise the loss for now. Then can change gear. But those habits do drift back. It's a life and personality thing I guess. So a reset is necessary now and again speaking for myself. 2
Popular Post Greenhorn2 Posted Sunday at 12:45 AM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 12:45 AM Dr. got on me about my sugar and weight. Told me to stop with the sugar and loose 5 lbs. before my next 6 month checkup. I drank nothing but water, ate 2 boiled eggs and a 50 cent bag of potato chips every day for brunch. Ate whatever I wanted for supper. Went back to my 6 month checkup and had lost 38 lbs. Dr was amazed and asked me how I did it. I told him liquor, cocaine and prostitutes would take 40 pounds off any man. 1 1 7
Li Bai Posted Sunday at 08:06 AM Posted Sunday at 08:06 AM Biological rythms are very important here. Try to have your meals around the same time everyday and avoid eating anything in-between. The same goes with sleep, when one goes to bed and wakes up on the same time day in, day out, one feels a lot more energetic and digestion becomes more efficient, it's particularly important for those of us with high blood sugar. And avoid sugar at all costs, this one's not an easy task given it's hidden everywhere but it's THE silent killer. 3 1

Popular Post El Presidente Posted Sunday at 10:52 PM Popular Post Posted Sunday at 10:52 PM Banos, I will arrange a Fat Bastid Comp to kick off Sunday the 1st of Feb. It will run for 8 weeks I have managed to keep my weight off for 7 years now after dropping 27 kilos/59 pounds . Once you get into the flow, it isn't too difficult. Consistency beats everything. Good eating, drinking, sleeping and exercise habits (consistency) essential. If it isn't enjoyable for you, it isn't maintainable long term. It becomes a fun exercise. It should never be a chore. Happy to run a Zoom session pre the Fat bastid Competition for those interested. 6 3

Popular Post Hoosh Posted 19 hours ago Popular Post Posted 19 hours ago At the end of January 2025, I got out of the shower, and happened to glance into the mirror. What the F? I know I’m not the first one to have done that but as a then 53 with a 15-year-old daughter and 28 years of marriage under my hugely over-my-belt-belly, a quick vision of some not so good health thoughts overcame me, and I decided to take some pictures. I am 6’1” and weighed 291. I completely changed my eating habits starting February 1, 2025 and today, I weigh 221. Well, 221.8, but I don’t work for the government and I’m not rounding up! It wasn’t easy, no joke. I looked at those three pictures I took a lot. I’m a visual guy and that was a huge motivator for me. My goal is ~210. I’ll get there. I’ve had more than my share of people that haven’t seen me in awhile ask other people if I was “sick” or “on that stuff.” It’s an oddly satisfying question I don’t mind answering. Almost as satisfying is going from a pant size of 50 to 38. Food addiction is no joke. I’m here 70lbs lighter to say that you can get past it. Snap a photo or two of yourself undressed. What you see with your eyes is a great motivator. 🙂 8
JohnS Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Congratulations @Hoosh. Well done. I am around the same height and 15 pounds more as of yesterday's weekly Monday morning weigh-in. Your journey is inspirational! 1

I hope it is to some people because a lot of folks don’t see food as being an “addiction.” It is. I lost 40 pounds once on a weight management program and it all went downhill when I bought a bag of Doritos and ate the whole thing in one sitting. I gained it all back plus more. Weight issues are truly a journey for some folks – it certainly was - is - for me. Sunday is the day I weigh myself, and I write it down every time. As I said, I’m a visual person, so those kinds of aids certainly helped me. It also helped me to tell people around me what my intent was because even if they didn’t say anything, I knew they could see me. When folks start asking what they can do to lose weight like you are, that is a motivating thing as well. 5
chasy Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago That’s amazing. Good for you. Positive change in one’s life is never easy and often the challenge is directly proportionate to the benefit. 2
