Popular Post VasileDulap Posted January 14 Popular Post Posted January 14 For me vitola is the most important factor for Regionals. I try to get the Lancero and Laguito no. 2 ones since these formats aren’t that common in regular production and Cohiba (Lancero and Coronas Especiales) and Trinidad Fundadores are usually more expensive than a Regional Edition in the same format. 7
EDnergy Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I agree, some can be a little boring and don’t really beat the regular production. But a few are interesting to me: Juan Lopez Valkyria ER Nordics PL Leones ER Espana Quai D'Orsay Capitolio ER Francia San Cristobal Magnificos ER Andorra. 3
yuppie Posted February 13 Posted February 13 I'm telling you right now, the PL Intemporales and the SP Rocinante are going to be amazing! 3

Popular Post joeypots Posted February 13 Popular Post Posted February 13 I found the series hit and miss but I haven't had any for years. The PL Londsdales '06 had fantastic flavor but were tent pegs. Bolivar Especial #2 Alemania '09 were very good.I had a bunch of singles. I lost interest in RE cigars, along with the ELs, after a lot of problem cigars. Maybe I had bad luck but I flipped most of the ones I had and bought regular production and have been content ever since. Edit: I've been smoke out of a box of Punch 898 2018 Edición Regional Asia Pacifico that was a gift. These are okay cigars but the fact that I forgot about smoking them says a lot to me. 6

I think thats the beauty of ERs, some work, some don't. A bit of experimentation by Regional distributors for their audiences, which we are fortunate to explore. The problem are the ELs for me because its inexcusable to be a hit and miss. There is always high expectation with ELs, any ELs in fact. Considering their premise, they need to be amazing every single time. 2
ha_banos Posted February 14 Posted February 14 I've got to add that I love variety. And the Limited edition and Regional Edition programs obviously goes to that. It's very hard however for me to get this stuff at retail. And anything priced locally for me here is out of reach. So that undoes the variety point anyway. Ho hum. 4

Plus sometimes Habanos S.A. just knocks it out of the park producing a legendary cigar. You got a box or two of those in your humidor - nice! 5

The Punch ManTua remains one of the best cigars I’ve ever smoked. I’ve got a pair of 2019s left kicking around in my humidor than I’m treating like a gold bar. 4
yuppie Posted February 23 Posted February 23 HalfWheel gave the Diplo Grandes Lancero an 85 due to construction issues, but the whole review is full of amazing notes: https://halfwheel.com/diplomaticos-grandes-er-alemania-2021/439243/ Espresso, citrus peel, cocoa nibs... Vanilla ice cream?! What other cigars, regional or regular, have notes like these? 1
Bada_Bing_NJ Posted February 24 Posted February 24 The LGC RE Andino keeps getting better. It was my first RE purchase in 2021. QdO RE Líbano has been a stunner the last time I tried. I only have 3 left and it's been 2 years since I last had one. 1
LargeFarva51 Posted February 28 Posted February 28 I am brand new to Cuban cigars and a complete geography nerd. Are the regionals actually based on the certain taste/what size and flavor profiles sell in that country/region? Or are they just an "ode" to certain parts of the world without putting much research or thought into what cigar smokers like best in that region/country?

From what I understand the Region's distributor (say PCC in Australasia) works direct with Habanos SA/Tabacuba to commission a blend and vitola of what they want. I guess it's up to the Region distributor to be as creative or boring as they wish. I’m sure there are plenty of restrictions from Habanos SA. 2

I imagine that distributors also bear the weight of responsibility for making their ER project a successful one but since they are numbered boxes, I assume that distributors are buying the whole batch regardless. As for restrictions, this I think is a consideration for introducing less prominent marcas, which adds to the creativity and perhaps novelty of the ERs. I would like to think that distributors would craft a cigar from marca with a certain fellowship in their respective regions. There has never been a Cohiba nor Trinidad ER. I checked the Cuban Cigar Website database and I am rather surprised that there has neither been a RyJ ER. Fascinating, or at least so for the eternally inquisitive BOTL nerds of the realm.
Popular Post JohnS Posted February 28 Popular Post Posted February 28 Regional Editions have been a fantastic way for Habanos S.A. to raise capital since all the risk is borne on behalf of the distributor. A minimum order of 25 000 sticks (up to 100 000 or more is some cases, such as the famous example of the 2017 Spanish Regional Edition La Gloria Cubana Serie D No.5 which got 500 000 sticks), with all the costs of packaging and production paid up front. Thanks to the Phoenicia Region, who ordered multiple instances of annual Ramon Allones releases in the 2010s, since 2016 cigars from the same brand cannot be manufactured two years in a row. When the program was started in 2005 the Global (i.e. Montecristo, Cohiba, Partagas, Romeo y Julieta, H.Upmann, Hoyo de Monterrey and Jose L. Piedra) and Niche Brands (Cuaba, San Cristobal de La Habana, Trinidad) were excluded from this program, at the time. Since the Brand Status of Habanos cigars was changed in 2019, we have seen Cuaba and San Cristobal de La Habana Regional Editions released, but no Trinidad one and nothing from the former big six Global brands. (N.B. Jose L. Piedra was previously designated a Global brand due to its high volume of sales in Europe - especially Spain.) 5 1
