Popular Post El Presidente Posted May 6 Popular Post Posted May 6 Cigar & Wine Masterclass with Ken Gargett. USA Friday 6th June, Saturday 7th June Local This month we will start with a regional Riesling that you can pick up locally. You can pick up any Riesling and you can match it with any cigar that you love. Ken will take you through the enchanted world of Riesling. Don't worry, he is across the board on global Riesling wines and trends I chose Riesling this month as I believe it is a perfect match with cigars. Call me wrong....debate on the day We will record the session for other members to enjoy. I will announce the time a touch closer to the event but likely 8PM/9PM NY time, 10 or 11 am local. Let us know if you are a starter and I will arrange a link on zoom a few days prior. These are always fun 10 1
riderpride Posted May 6 Posted May 6 Riesling you say? I've always thought water or brown (tea or whisk(e)y) was preferable, if not a rum punch. I love to be wrong though as I learn more that way. Very much looking forward to it and hope to make it. Much appreciation gents! Cheers

We have one of the best wine and cigar guys in the world (me....ok Ken) involved. Kick it around. 1
riderpride Posted May 6 Posted May 6 I know riesling lovers I'll forward this to in order to recommend cigars 😆 Cheers!
unaslob Posted May 7 Posted May 7 I would love to pair a QDO perhaps with a Riesling. Or maybe a RA SCC. That raisin tone might really get highlighted by the wine. Edit: realized it will be a Zoom.
Fuzz Posted May 7 Posted May 7 I'd sign up, but pretty sure WorkCover NSW would frown upon me drinking at work and operating heavy machinery. 4
Glass Half Full Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Sounds like great fun! Thanks for putting this together! looking fwd,

In keeping with this theme, I'm fairly sure that drinking Riesling and smoking cigars in a classroom with eight and nine year-olds would be frowned upon also! 6 1

Lamboinee Posted May 8 Posted May 8 I've always had trouble pairing wine with cigars. I look forward to learning something.
sv_ontour Posted May 8 Posted May 8 Sounds great, I’m in. @Ken Gargett any suggestions for the resiling? I was thinking maybe something from the great southern - Forest Hill or Duke’s Magpie Hill?

Marco_011t556 Posted May 14 Posted May 14 I'm in. By the way, could Ken suggest 1-3 bottles first and we can buy them in advance? And can we taste the wine together with Ken on ZOOM? My preferred white wine: fruity, sweet (not familiar with it) no idea of price range but maybe USD$50-200/ bottle? as entry level first.
Ken Gargett Posted May 14 Posted May 14 apols to all. i have advised rob but i don't think he has shared it yet - i have a problem with the date. my fault - i simply did not twig to the clash but i have my car in for service that morning (given the waiting list, etc etc). if i cancel, it could be weeks and weeks to get another spot and i am already six months over the suggested date. also, i would rather it was sunday morning our time so Aussies can be part of it. i can do the first our time, any other day that week, bar the Thursday, all the following weekend and all the next week. that is literally one of only two dates for ages that does not work (in my defence, i was not consulted before the date was decided but i am aware of my position on the food chain not requiring such information). apols. when the powers that be work out the date, let me know. 2
barrygoodvibes Posted Wednesday at 11:48 PM Posted Wednesday at 11:48 PM Looking forward to it! Let me know the link and what bottle we’re buying!
Rhinoww Posted Thursday at 01:07 PM Posted Thursday at 01:07 PM Oddly on the Rhein now with an SLR Alemania. Opened this site for the first time in a few weeks as we move North. The Alemania demonstrates that Cuba is Cuba. Great flavor but tragically under filled. Will not last as long as the Monte 5s I have been enjoying every eve on the top of the boat. Still good flavor though. The different Rieslings with dinner every night have been a treat though and certainly opened my eyes. Unfortunate that cost to ship six bottles from the small winery we visited was nearly 200 euros. I will be heading to my local spirit consultant when I get home though and stock the cellar a bit more. Great cigar shop in Koblenz though. That was a very pleasant surprise. 3
