This is not a Chas Alpha sponsored post, but I will admit to his struggle with the great Aussie product being the inspiration for this poll. ;)

And I'm just curious to see what the masses think...I know we had a post around this at the time of Chas's initial investigations, but I don't think we had a poll for the record... 🤔

In any case, this will be the first in a series of polls for General life stuff, pop culture things, trivia, whatnot...

Vote and discuss... :cigar:

Missing the “have never tried it” option. Maybe some day, but not really high on my list.

The first batch was rolled-out back in 1922, so it's impressive it's had a run this long. Even more impressive is it's  rumored the second batch might be made in another few years.

Cheers!

My Aussie stepdad entered my life when I was about 12, and I quickly heard how legendary this stuff was whenever he received some in a care package from a mate. It was always in the cupboard growing up, but it never made it past “Ewwww” for me.

Although I'm an Aussie I've never been afraid to say I hate the stuff. Loathe it. Didn't help that my first five years at school my parents gave me vegemite and cheese sandwiches on an almost daily basis.

How hard was the vegemite to wipe off the cheese? I know you tried.

I am a fairly recent fan. I saw it in the condiment section at a buffet when working in Singapore. Was curious and thought it was pretty good! Have a small bottle at home that I use in stews and sauces. I usually forget I have it. I'll go for a small spoonful now and then. It ain't replacing mustard.

Had an Aussie exchange student when I was young (35 years ago) for a few weeks. She asked for vegemite and we called all over town to find it. She was thrilled and cute enough to get me to try it. It was the most vile thing I’ve ever eaten and still remember the flavor all these decades later. 0/10, strongly do not recommend

In that previous thread on vegemite @westg suggested that vegemite is best appreciated after your bread (or toast) is buttered and only a tiny amount (of vegemite) is needed. I couldn't agree more. 😉

First time I had vegemite was when I was backpacking/hitchhiking through New Zealand int he 1991. We were camping in a farmers field one night and got invited in for a snack and he had vegemite and avocados on toast. First time trying either vegemite and avocados and I remember being much more intrigued by the avocado. Vegemite was not very memorable. Since then i have had it maybe half dozen times and am sort of indifferent to it. Will never buy a jar for myself but if offered I won't shy away from it.

John, isn’t that a bit like saying that the Monte Open line are outstanding, as long as you don’t light them?🤔

Haha, no...not quite. It's a bit like saying that salt is okay to add to your dinner, just don't add a heap of it. Vegemite is so savoury, it's best eaten in tiny amounts.

You know those chunks of vomit you occasionally get after drinking your second and a half to third case of beer in one night? I would rather have eaten those.

Or even the green bile you puke up the next day...

John, I recently saw that modern technology and an electron microscope was used to construct a gold film that was one atom thick. That is revolutionary! Perhaps the same tech could be used to applying Vegemite to a perfectly good piece of wheat toast? 🤔

john, i believe that you left out the final step, after only a tiny amount needed. that is to then throw the piece of toast or bread, with whatever amount of vegemite slime is on it into the depths of mt doom.

Lol - this reminded me of Superman 2's Phantom Zone

Cheers!
