Habanos S.A. is advertising a new documentary on the Cohiba Behike coming soon with Kirby Allison. It could be Kirby’s year to win his Habanos award. Obviously it will be released to tie in with the new releases.

I don’t know if Kirby intentionally lost weight but he’s looking rather gaunt lately.

Yeah, I noticed that too. It does look like he's going through some kind of health issues.

Hello F.O.Hers

The video above is well done and to say it all, i do like Kirby alot  (BUT),

when they talk about the MEDIO TEMPO tobacco, i have to cry out and reply.

A few years ago ,i put out a post and talked about a booklet i had from 1938 that spoke

about an old cigar store in london called "MARTINS  CIGAR and SHIPPERS OF PICADILLY".

The booklet was on famous men who smoked cigars and some cigar history with,at the end,

the seven best cigars seen by CHARLES GRAVES and the last cigar was a small cigar made with

MEDIO TEMPO leaves. This was back in the 30's. the booklet is called " CIGAR  AND THE MAN " by CHARLES GRAVES

I looked for the post which has all of the booklet and all of the photos but i can't find it, if someone can find it ,

he can post it here. Thank you for hearing me out.

Guy

Hi Guy. I'll take a look.  Interested in seeing that.  FWIW. The NC Partagas Black Label cigars are touted to be made with a lot of Medio Tiempo leaves.  Not sure how much % wise they occupy in each cigar, but, they are harsh cigars.

You know for someone who's married to a Mexican, travels there frequently, lives in Texas, and is a self-proclaimed Habanos aficionado, you'd think Kirby wouldn't sounds like such a gringo with his Spanish.

100% this. If he put some effort into learning the language fully, it'd be a boon to his professional and personal life.

I’m curious how many of the FOHers have actually tried Behike?  If you have, was it a unique experience?  I get that no cigar can be ‘worth’ that price but just trying to determine if they have something you can’t find in other cigars?

They weren't always that high. I remember back when people said they refuse to pay $50 for a cigar when that's what these were going for. I've never been blown away by it, but its an above average Cuban in my book. I'd take a well aged Siglo VI over it any day of the week.

I bought them when they came out. Mine are 2011 box codes. At today's prices, they're a no go. Back then, at under $400/USD for the BHK56 and lesser for the 52/54. IMO, they were worth it. Even though that was the highest price point for a cigar. The 52 is a very good, balanced smoked. I can see why CA gave it #1. At the time and even now, I prefer the Trinidad Robusto T. The 54 is the most bold/strong of the three. The blend really hits some great tasting notes at all ends of the spectrum. I've probably smoked these the most. The BHK56 is the most elegant blend of them all. I liken it to a Champagne cigar. And to me, they evoke some of the few Cuban Davidoff's I've smoked over the years. If you can get a sampler of each for a decent price. I'd say give it a shot. But that's probably pushing under $1K for 3 cigars I'd guess. You could put that budget to better use too.

I had a 56 once that was upper realm. Very elegant and smooth. I have had better Lusitanias.

I had a 52 maybe a decade ago. Refined, nuanced, what you come to expect from a proud habano. But its quite serious, takes the right environment to fully savour. Far from a casual smoke. There was something a bit special about it though, perhaps something aromatic...or maybe it was just financial burden. I digress.

Smoked tons. Are they the best of best? Maybe. I’ve had some that melted my mind, but overall just great classy complex cigars. Had some 56’s from 2021 that were some of the best cigars I’ve ever had. They all have their own unique blend. All are great. For me I think my favorite is the 52. It’s the strongest in flavor and strength, but so refined with a few years age on them with tons of complexity that builds towards the end. Underlying graham cracker flavor throughout. The unique Behike flavor best described by Danilo as “gunpowder “.

That’s a fact!

The B58 will be likely released at the Festival. In the trailer it seems they are making the B58 lettering blurry in one of the boxes or is it a 56? The re-introduction of the Behikes is due to the new labels/boxes that will be used. Funny how he has trouble pronouncing the products key words. Ya'd think them marketing geniuses at Habanos SA could get him in some remedial Spanish 0101 classes "while in Cuba". In the full video it looks awkward him having a conversation outside standing the whole time. Added to that, the conversation goes from Spanish to English flawlessly. The Cuban Habanos rep and the Spanish Habanos rep did not respond in English, and obviously Kirby knows no Spanish. Kooky. But he's their boy. John

Yeah, it was a bit distracting how it went back and forth between the languages. Either he does know some Spanish and can comprehend or there's someone off camera that does and he splices out the translation part? Being fluent in Italian myself, has helped me understand >60% of Spanish being spoken to me. Conversing is my challenge and I've been taking lessons over the years. Hopefully I'll get there soon. :)

Hello there friends,

I finally found it, go to my profile and click on "all activities," once your there, go to NO. 75 and almost at the end you'll see, "A time ago when a Habano was a Havana last part ". Look at the page where the small cigars are called " TWEENIES " and you'll see that the medio tiempo leaves are NOT new.

Thank you for hearing me out.
