Havanaaddict Posted February 13 Posted February 13 Which cigars do you think the wrappers influence the flavor night & day for the good or bad? Rafael González Coronas de Lonsdales First one that come to mind is the new Rafael González Coronas de Lonsdales, with dark wrappers I think they are a good cigar with good potential. But with light wrappers the flavor just turns into warm air and tasteless, at least for now! Partagas Serie D No.4 Don't get me wrong I love the PSD4 with most any warper! If I want strong deep flavors the ones with dark wrappers fit the bill, but if you want that classic PSD4 flavor (velvety, dusty, Creamy) Colorado Claro Wrapper is the way to go! Cohiba Robusto I do like them most anyway light, medium, dark but I do lean to a little bit on the darker side as it produces the rich flavor and adds to the sweeter flavor at a younger age! I miss the Corojo wrappers on the pre-90's cigars 😪
ha_banos Posted February 13 Posted February 13 It's this going to spurt the war of the influence of wrapper... 5% or 95%? 2
JohnS Posted February 14 Posted February 14 This is a good topic and I hope that our members can respond here in regard to their preferences and thoughts. Meanwhile, there's a number of threads on this issue over the years that can be perused below for further reading... 1 2
MrBirdman Posted February 14 Posted February 14 The wrapper can affect the quality of any cigar if it isn’t right, and each marca has its sweet spot. I find anything too far off that mark is negative affected (like super dark Cohiba or Colorado maduro Maduro 5’s, which seem to be less frequent these days). 1

One of my workmates decided to try cigars, presumably because he had witnessed how they can take me from “I’M GOING TO KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM!” Into “It’ll be alright, we’ll fix it tomorrow.” in under 35 minutes. I suggested as a way to understand cigar construction, take two (I’d turned him on to AF Hemingway series) and remove one of the wrappers. Smoke them side by side. Then you can tell me how much the wrapper affects the overall experience. 1

I would be stunned at that result, however each of us has a completely different palate and points of reference. Please post your review if you take the naked lady challenge. 🙂 1
Popular Post joeypots Posted February 15 Popular Post Posted February 15 I don’t pay attention to color too much but I find that very dark wrappers overwhelm the other flavors of cigars. If I can get them I’ll take a cigar with a thin stretched looking wrapper that shines with oil. Two examples. 5
CaptainQuintero Posted February 15 Posted February 15 I love those rich rosado wrappers on RyJ, you know you're going to get that depth of dark cherry and Turkish delight in spades. 4
