Popular Post Chas.Alpha Posted December 12, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 12, 2024 I got a personal reprimand on my company review yesterday. Apparently, I don’t play nicely with others. 🙄 I think I’ll post my Vegemite review tonight… 1 1 8

Popular Post Cigar Surgeon Posted December 12, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 12, 2024 1 because 0 wasn't an option. I spent the entire year except for the past 7 days unemployed / laid off. I can tell you that based on the experience if I get laid off in my 50s I have no f'ing idea what I'm going to do. It was quite clear to me that I have reached an age where I am suddenly unhireable. Ironically the company that did hire me was hesitant, based on how old I am, and now after just a week they've been telling me what an amazing job I'm doing. It's time to get rich based on the stock market or something because I don't know what else there is. 9
mikejh Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Great year overall...vacation to Florida, got 2 raises at work, got back into cigar smoking after a few years off and got to smoke a bunch of well aged cigars. Discovered 24:24. 4
ChangBang Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Hard to complain maybe a 4.5. Was on vacation for 10 weeks this past year. Met new friends, no health issues besides getting progressively out of shape, got a few cigars and a big Raching humidor, added bottles of liquor to my collection, and still managed not to get fired from work. Looking forward to next year though - have 7 weeks of vacation planned Jan - Mar. Only sad thing is I haven't been on the forums as much these daysl 3

Popular Post LordAnubis Posted December 12, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 12, 2024 Alhamdulillah. Moved into the new house which after a 4 year journey from the initial brainstorming session was more than glad to see the end of it. Spent plenty of money on the final things for the house so now flat broke but at least it’s all behind us. Watching a 1 year old become a 2 year old is an an absolutely crazy rate of growth and development. Socially, with happenings around the world have been mostly negative for my family and my community. I can truly say that I have changed and have become much more aggressive in my thoughts and my actions. Work wise living the dream. Bottom of the ladder employee with absolutely no responsibility. Not a single F@&$ given for my job. What I want from next year? All I can ask for is progress and justice for my community. Making hay while the sun shines for work and padding out my “yeah nah I quit” account. Funnily I threatened to quit this year and apparently it was “communicated poorly and misunderstood the directive” about coming into the office more 😂 so my 4 days a week work from home continues which suits my introverted self just fine. Might give retirement another crack. Currently looking for part time roles but very hard to come by. Of course, inshallah I witness another year of my baby girl becoming little girl. 9

It's time to get rich based on the stock market or something because I don't know what else there is. You're not alone. My wife got laid off after 24 years working for a huge corporation and within one year of fully vesting in her pension payout. This is after she was retained during the previous layoff period (18 months ago), given a promotion, and deemed as "essential". Happily she got a new job pretty quickly. Personally, I couldn't work for a large corporation after a taste of it working for a major hotel chain a million years ago. You're essential, right up until they decide you're not. I made the choice to trust an individual who was starting his own company and that's worked out fine for me for the last 34 years. Congrats on the new gig! I hope you found a good fit. 5 1

Popular Post Ford2112 Posted December 12, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 12, 2024 Every day is a new day! If I were to vote again I would maybe rate 2024 a 3. 2.5 . I was on new meds when I posted that 🤣. Hope everyone has a good holiday. 5
ha_banos Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Wowsers. Always enlightening hearing others' stories. I can't complain. Long term contract finally ended. Jumped into another job. Bit of a break. Which was welcomed! Office only one day a week. Small investment finally creeping up wards. Everyone's healthy. Still got cigars to smoke. Still able to CrossFit although I'm bottom of the class now lol Life's pretty simple. How I prefer it. But for me that's a middle of the road score. Wishing all y'all a happy new year and all the best for the season. 1
Popular Post MickVanWinkle Posted December 13, 2024 Popular Post Posted December 13, 2024 It’s funny how perspective comes into play with such a reflection. There are those that I celebrate the 5 and those my heart goes out to with the 1. For me, many of the events rank towards the 2 - Body parts under surgical repair, my wife’s miscarriage and other health expenses that rock the stability of finances. A bit of career dissatisfaction, aging/ailing parents, and a pet that was lost. However, my body is healing. We found that my wife can get pregnant. A pending promotion that can be leveraged as much as I am willing to grind on. A newly adopted pet (aptly named Havana) for my 40th and a surprise party with more friends I knew I had. The hope and potential spins it to an overall positive 4. 9
Popular Post El Presidente Posted December 15, 2024 Author Popular Post Posted December 15, 2024 What this thread shows is that good people can be doing it tough from time to time. For the love of God, reach out if that situation occurs/drags on. A one on one zoom session with myself or others over a cigar can make a little bit of difference. Don't PM Ken however or you may end up thinking it is all too much. 5 4
Fuzz Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 How was 2024? . .. ... Can we go back to the Covid era again? 1
pohlmad Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Business is great. I’ve got a new house that has made my wife happy and has surprised me as my place of peace. New car that has enabled me to take hockey tournament road trips with my family where I’ve learned to keep the radio off and my kids will talk to fill the silence (I love hearing what is on their mind). Had a great family trip to Hawaii that reminded me we all need a temporary change of pace for perspective (sometimes I can get too deep into work). For 2025, I need to figure out my winter cigar smoking situation! Can’t wait! 3

Watching Dr. Faustus and sipping on Aberlour 12 (both shit and it's late) for no other reason it's Monday tomorrow. Come on Wednesday and a two weeks off work! 3

usleepicreep Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Wasn’t too bad, got laid off. Took a month to visit my family and another month to do whatever I wanted. Spent 2-3 months looking for a new job. The market is awful but was able to landed something very competitive. Hoping next year is full of more cigars and more trips. Planning to visit Singapore/Japan sometimes next year. Gotta prep myself for that flight lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 3
bmac Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Tried dating younger women in 2024 and it’s cost me about $60,000. Other than that it’s been ok. Maybe it’s worth it😎 1 1
JY0 Posted December 17, 2024 Posted December 17, 2024 Very, very lucky. In March we decided to sell our mountain hideaway in the Blue Ridge, in western NC. We had acreage, 100 mile views and no people. It was awesome until we aged and figured out the medical care situation isn’t workable for old folks. We sold to the first looker for over asking and moved in July. Shortly after we moved the hurricane wrecked the place and our town and it will be decades before it returns to normal. We built a house and moved in yesterday. Everything is more convenient outside of Raleigh, we are around family. Life is good. 1
