I think we can all find beauty in design across a very broad array of things: house, computer, furniture, etc... but sex in design is something else. It's no doubt some brands have deliberately or inadvertently hung their hat on the inherent sexiness of their product design/brand image... (leaving sex toys out of the scenario here, of course. :D)... Ferrari is a great example. And, I'm no fashion guru, but I'm sure there are many great examples here among clothing and accessories - shoes, watches, sunglasses, and so on.

The question being, are we losing this design ability as technology advances or is this just something every generation thinks as time rolls forward?

I've posted a few below (old and current) to give an idea of what floats my boat... but what products/brands "do it" for you? Do you find any ultra-modern or concept designs that you would define as sexy?

The word "sexy" is obviously pretty loaded. But I think human reaction to something being 'right' or 'beautiful' if often more to do with the golden section. I strongly recommend a book called "power of the limits". Whether it be a Spitfire Wing or the harmonics of a Simon & Garfunkel song. Or the geometries of a Japanese garden of contemplation. They are all connected and conform to the golden section.    We are a naturally susceptible to see beauty in these things.

The question is, does the undervaluing of hands-on craftspeople in preference of computer generated design correlate to stuff getting uglier.......or in your words less sexy

Great response. I was very close to including this gorgeous bird in the "sexy" category.

An interesting experiment took place quite a few years ago when someone wanted to make a facsimile of an ancient marble bust.  They photo scanned the original and used a CNC milling machine to create copy.

Anyway regardless of all the measurements being correct, it just looked wrong. Very slightly awry.

I think when you give crafts people full sensory access to materials. I.e. sight, smell, sound and touch.   Your get special outcomes.

When you get a tech bro to do it,  you get something that looks like a teenagers doodle

No, it's a plume injector! All serious cigar smokers have one.

Car lose their sex appeal when they are designed by committee. Pedestrian crash laws don't help either. Some of the appeal we see in older cars are the palmares and time-place. Reliving Stirling Moss or the Mille Miglia for instance.
