One could argue that the introduction of the Big Mac in 1968 changed the hamburger and the fast-food industry forever. The Big Mac made one product synonymous with its business, which of course is McDonald's. Over the years, burgers have come and gone from the menu but the Big Mac remains.

In March 2020, McDonald's decided to add the Double Big Mac to the menu, but then Covid hit, and the item was quietly removed from the menu. The Double Big Mac has been already introduced in countries like Great Britain, Canada and Australia and now, on January 24th, it will be the United States turn to become familiar with a new item on the menu that is related to an old favourite, the Big Mac.

How will it fare? Do we need it, especially if In-N-Out, Five Guys, Shake Shack et al. (to name a few) are doing the 'job' nowadays?

McDonald's Double Big Mac coming soon to US restaurants

LOS ANGELES - Mark your calendars, folks.

The Double Big Mac is coming soon to a McDonald's near you.

The meaty burger will be available at all restaurants nationwide for a limited-time only starting Jan. 24, the company announced Tuesday.

McDonald's describes its newest menu item as "double the fun," complete with four 100% all-beef patties and even more Big Mac sauce.

The burger is topped off with pickles, lettuce, onions, and American cheese, all sandwiched between a sesame seed bun.

Last year, the fast food chain announced it would be making changes to its classic hamburger, cheeseburger, double cheeseburger, McDouble burger and Big Mac sandwiches.

Those burger changes began rolling out shortly after the announcement at its West Coast restaurants.

"We can do it quick, fast and safe, but it doesn’t necessarily taste great. So, we want to incorporate quality into where we’re at," Chris Young, McDonald’s senior director of global menu strategy, told The Wall Street Journal.

McDonald’s brings the Double Big Mac back to the U.S.

McDonald’s Double Big Mac was first introduced on the restaurant menu in early March 2020 and includes four beef patties and additional sauce.

McDonald’s is offering a Double Big Mac at participating restaurants nationwide for a limited time starting Jan. 24. The Double Big Mac includes four beef patties and additional sauce, and is topped with the product’s signature pickles, shredded lettuce, chopped onions and slice of American cheese sandwiched between a sesame seed bun.

The Double Big Mac has already been available in Canada and Great Britain. The company also introduced it to the U.S. market, though that introduction was made in March 2020 right before the pandemic forced closures and halted innovation. In the ensuing months, most brands, including McDonald’s, trimmed menus and operating hours to navigate the crisis and the Double Big Mac was eventually pulled.

During McDonald’s Investor Day last month, CEO Chris Kempczinski said the company would be focusing on its core menu offerings, including the Big Mac, and hinted at having a “larger burger.” Notably, the company is also working on updating its traditional burgers, featuring changes such as softer buns and more sauce, as well as changes to the cooking process. The company said these updates will yield its “best burgers ever” and they’re expected to be deployed systemwide by the end of 2026.

“We’ve identified an unmet customer need with a significant opportunity to drive future growth in beef and that is the large beef burger customer – a desire for larger, high quality burgers that fill you up and are delivered in a convenient and affordable way,” Jo Sempels, president for international developmental licensed markets, said during investor day.

For those about to indulge, I salute you!! Won't be myself though, I quit eating all fast food over two years ago, including Mc D's. It has become too expensive with inflation, and certainly is not good for your health nor A1C levels.

Just more than I could eat. Interesting it is 740 calories which I thought would have been higher but large fries is 560 calories which I thought would have been lower.
