For premium cigars, the language removes the existing federal excise tax of 52.75 percent, capped at 40.26 cents per cigar, and replaces it with a weight-based tax of $49.56 per pound.

Because it’s a weight-based tax, the difference between the existing tax and the new taxes would vary depending on how heavy the cigar is. The guy who proposed this (Dem-Ill) needs a good smack around the chops. If only Australia and NZ weren’t so trendy (I blame Hugh Jackman) then I’d say the chances of this coming to pass eventually wasn’t likely. We live on borrowed time, Hawaii recently prohibited shipping of cigars here cos they can’t grab the sales tax reliably. A fricking US State won’t allow domestic shipping of a product. Crazy.

It's an imperative for globalists to eradicate tobacco use world wide.  Shouldn't this be welcomed?  Tobacco use causes cancer.   2nd hand smoke is harming those who are not even around smokers.  A total ban should be considered, no?

I'm somewhat suspicious that tobacco is held up as the root cause of so many illnesses while the toxicity of Industry goes unchecked and increasingly, unregulated.  Take a walk down a street in Havana. Is that the second hand cigar smoke pressing on your lungs or the exhaust from old cars burning low grade fuel?  🤔

Cannot pick and choose which science facts you want to go with right?  Isn't science absolute?  We saw that with vaccines, cannot be questioned.  We should be just preemptive around tobacco which kills millions.
