El Presidente Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 Buckleys and none chance of getting up. Still, there are obviously some who wish to see a weight based tax system for cigars in the USA. https://halfwheel.com/new-bill-would-more-than-triple-federal-taxes-for-cigars/429606/ For premium cigars, the language removes the existing federal excise tax of 52.75 percent, capped at 40.26 cents per cigar, and replaces it with a weight-based tax of $49.56 per pound. Because it’s a weight-based tax, the difference between the existing tax and the new taxes would vary depending on how heavy the cigar is. For cigars robusto or larger, it would likely more than triple the current federal tax rate. halfwheel estimates that this new weight-based tax would equate to: 2
NSXCIGAR Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 You've got to hand it to the Democrats with their bill names. Who could be against the "CARE for Moms" act? 2
Fireball Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 It won’t happen. There’s always weird stuff people are trying to add to bills. Especially tobacco taxes.

Who could be against the "CARE for Moms" act? The guy who proposed this (Dem-Ill) needs a good smack around the chops. If only Australia and NZ weren’t so trendy (I blame Hugh Jackman) then I’d say the chances of this coming to pass eventually wasn’t likely. We live on borrowed time, Hawaii recently prohibited shipping of cigars here cos they can’t grab the sales tax reliably. A fricking US State won’t allow domestic shipping of a product. Crazy.
BrightonCorgi Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 It's an imperative for globalists to eradicate tobacco use world wide. Shouldn't this be welcomed? Tobacco use causes cancer. 2nd hand smoke is harming those who are not even around smokers. A total ban should be considered, no? https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2023/09/22/millions-exposed-secondhand-smoke/4581695309809/

Take a walk down a street in Havana. Is that the second hand cigar smoke pressing on your lungs or the exhaust from old cars burning low grade fuel? 🤔 2

Isn't science absolute? We saw that with vaccines, cannot be questioned. We should be just preemptive around tobacco which kills millions. 1

Bijan Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 $0.40 per cigar tax replaced by $50 per pound. <Cries in Canadian> Apparently we're smoking quarter pounders in Canada /s
