Wow it’s been forever since I had a stick that tasted of mongrel. Years likely. Today I had a six or so month old custom sig VI that was outstanding but had a touch of mongrel at the start. Ended very quickly. I had intended to let these rest for a few years but I dropped one stick and stepped on it so it had to be sacrificed.
Curious if the lack of mongrel sticks over the past few years is a result of Covid related delays or perhaps the better crops or perhaps a change in the curing process.
Or have I just been lucky.
Granted not a new box in some time, but it’s been years since I had to put down a stick due to mongrel issues.
When did you last have a mongrel stick?  Have I just been lucky or is this a trend?

My Feb 2022 PLPC still have a bit of it. Last time I sampled them, around 6 months ago, I said they were about halfway there. It's actually about time I checked up on them again.

Only other that comes to mind was an ABR 22 Epicure 1, I got in a sixer. Almost unsmokable, but thankfully, the only bad one of the bunch.

Everything else from late 2019 till now have been splendid

I have a box of:

Punch Royal Selection No.12 OPM OCT 09

and a box of:

Hoyo Le Hoyo du Prince TOR FEB 16

(Edit: smoked one of the Hoyo last night, and one of the Punch this afternoon)

Both have rough dark wrapper, that you barely see these days, just turning good now, but still smoke rougher than new sticks, especially the Punch.

Yeah PLPC would be my bet for new sticks with that quality.

I shared a couple custom rolled Robustos with my Dad last Sunday, they where very strong. Enjoyable through the first half, but the strength just kept building. We both had to put them down around the beginning of the first third, they were just too much. I should have known better, when I picked the bundle up last summer, the roller gave me a BHK 56 size that he rolled to "suit Yuma taste buds" as he put it. a full leaf of ligero, and the only volado was the binder. It was probably the strongest Cuban I've ever smoked, it was just way too much, no nuance at all. I didn't ask for any more of those.

I third that. When young they’re reliably mongrely if that’s what you’re into.

I just tried one last night and I'd say they're around 70% there. Could be truly ready at about 2 years, so much faster than years previous
