Popular Post Ken Gargett Posted April 9, 2023 Popular Post Posted April 9, 2023 first, i tried so hard to get these upright. drives me insane. kicked off with some champers. this was a great start. this was the superstar among them. first white, the Y from yquem. god-awful. bog average savvy dominant. magnum of Petaluma Riesling 2012. stunning. decades to go. impressive Meursault. far more impressive chevalier. wow. solid. white of the day. magnificent. largely a Bordeaux day and i am not sure Bordeaux gets better than this. very good but possibly not quite as good as we hoped. amazing for a somewhat dodgy vintage. superb. superb Margaux. close to heaven. this drank pretty much as well as any on the day. extraordinary. acceptable. served this blind. no one came close to Beaujolais. amazingly intense. best i have seen. favourite maker, his best wine, a great year. what is not to love. and a fine tribute, 16 being the year Henri Bonneau passed. favourite sherry house and this was amazing. what serious lunch doesn't have an Yquem? there was also a 77 Crofts VP but i may have failed to take a pic and by that stage, no real recollection of it. 8 1 1

BrightonCorgi Posted April 10, 2023 Posted April 10, 2023 The right amount of wine for a fun and irreverent afternoon.

Ken Gargett Posted April 10, 2023 Author Posted April 10, 2023 we had the regular monthly lunch on last Thursday, with some fantastic wines - way too many ( i was worse after it than i was after this one). then this and, lord save me, we have the annual tripe/offal lunch tomorrow. entry involves very good wine. so back to the coal face. one of the guys contacted me to ask if a 1982 Salon would be acceptable. can't help thinking that if it isn't what would be? i shall report. supposed to do a vid with rob thursday. i may not be at my best. 2
