AI in the Cigar World....any effect?

I was asked yesterday of what would the likely impact be of AI in the Cigar world from growing to manufacturing to end retail sale.

Not giving it much thought I said that the entire Tabacuba management structure could be replaced in a nanosecond. We are talking about a group that ran out of Monte 4's after all.    Production scheduling/middle management gone.

Thinking deeper, where can the coming AI era move the needle in the cigar world?

The farmers are disappearing and the industry is changing to accommodate it. Fewer farmers, owning larger plots, using more machines, to increase harvest volumes. Look at what's happening with Genetic Modification and GPS/auto pilot on tractors, The seeds are designed to be planted in a certain location, farmed in a certain way, over a set period of time. We're a lot close to doing it intentionally than people realize. In Cuba, its going to be forced, the old farmers aren't getting any younger and the newer generation just isn't interested.

Once it can blend cigars it’ll be time to panic!

The time for panic already passed with Cuban cigar blending, I’m hoping AI can fix it.

AI controlled farms? Android rollers? (they can also be the draw test machines at the same time)

Rollers?  How about 3D printed perfect cigars.

Interestingly, we use 3D printed cigars to give to our mould makers. It has worked out exceptionally well when we are looking for vitolas such as 109/Petit 109 and Fying Pig. :ok:

AI will be used to speed tobacco eradication world wide.  It'll kill off the cigar industry by creating anti-smoking/tobacco content at rate never seen before.

Came across this video recently showcasing a super accurate sprayer using AI to either feed crops or kill weeds at the same time.

Right now there is already some machine learning that is happening in the Cigar industry. A website called Cigar Scanner (cigarscanner.com) allows you to take a picture of your cigar and it’ll identify the cigar for you. It seems to do a very good job at detecting the brand/marca and very often even gets the vitola correct. I’ve begun using it for one of my humidors and once they provide a better avenue for importing and exporting sticks, I may move my full inventory over there as their service improves,

Speaking of an inventory system, cigargeeks has updated their website (it’s secure now under https rules) and while it still looks a bit early 2000s in my experience it is the best web based inventory system for cigars. If someone else has a better option that is web based, I would certainly be all ears!
