F*ck.

normally, as a mod, i would be forced to removed your post. on this occasion, double ....

i got sent this from a bourbon importer, who was not impressed, so i am a bit worried that it is not a joke.

I rarely call for violence.

actually, for me, it is the establishment who served it that needs the violence. you can't blame idiots just because they have too much money. but surely the bar/restaurant/whatever should have simply said no. no way. leave. or at least that they had run out of every possible mixer. shame on them serving it like that.

Absolutely not on the establishment to deny the order.  The server/bartender tells all the staff and they walk by them to check the douche out.  Same goes for any smoke show that comes in.

Each to their own I guess ...I do agree I have friends here who regularly order double Zacapa XO diet coke and ice, that is a $90 drink....You can go Captain Morgan and DC for $15. I don't even bother trying to give any input nor should the establishment. Early this year 4 of US split a bottle of Pappy to smoke with a cigar ($325)...one of us drank it with dry ginger. Pity the fool. As I said each to their own. 🌴😎

As a bartender in the US for 7+ years; this statement is sooooo freaking accurate. 😂🤣

To each their own for sure.  You know they want to order that Capt.& coke, they need that Capt & coke.  😎  Keep smoking the good smoke my brother.

It wasn't that long ago that few would bat an eye at an order like that because Pappy 15 was reasonably accessible at under $100 a bottle. Still a waste, I agree, but now it is the whisky equivalent of dipping a Behike into wine before smoking it.

It's possible too that it was a holiday party open bar of some sort.  Boneheads that drink Miller Lite every day order something like that because it doesn't cost them anything.  My prior daily bar stop had a holiday party every year that emptied their top shelf.  The rest of the year, those bottles simply collected dust.  Of course, the sports bar I'm referring to never had a bottle of Pappy on the shelf...it was in the bar owner's office under lock and key. 😁

there may have been a touch of the tongue in cheek in my suggestion but if we did take that further, whether the establishment wished to do so or not might come down to the local legislation. it does not say for sure here, but serving coors is a bit of a clue that this might be from the states. very different circumstances of course, but the us supreme court decision in masterpiece cakeshop shows that there are occasions when a supplier of goods/services may refuse (looking at this from a purely legal and not a political perspective and not suggesting for a second that anyone debate the political rights or wrongs thereof). just how narrowly or widely this will be interpreted in the future remains to be seen.

the reality is that the establishment is extremely unlikely not to comply. of course, if any issues then the patron could simply order the pappy and the ginger ale separately and pour one into the other.

Sometimes events have min. spend...............a friend went to an event a while back where that was the case.  They were far away from the minimum and said a few guys ended up drinking Boss Hog in shots to get there.

This is true for my wife. She believes that she can only tolerate mid shelf or higher in her cocktails. I have been buying her Woodford Reserve for mint juleps or apple bourbon cocktails. I've secretly been refilling the Woodford Reserve bottles with Seagrams 7. She has not noticed.

I expect this sort of practice is commonplace in the high end clubs and bars around cigar land in London. And especially common in Nusret's establishments...

If the stories are true and I'm recalling correctly, Julian "pappy" used to mix his with lemonade.

Honestly, just happy to see someone actually drinking bourbon rather than displaying it like it belongs in the Louvre
