Rhinoww Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Been there twice, pre Covid. Fun place for the family. Lots to do. I ended up smoking at the beach under some shade on the far right. Fewer people around to bother me. Actually have a picture from a lounge chair looking out at the ocean as the background on my phone. Very mellow place. Morning coffee from the place by the casino was memorable. Cigars on the beach are very fake. Can’t recall if they had much there. bring your minimum to smoke and feel lucky if you find anything to bring home. We have also stayed at a melia hotel that had a decent cigar shop. Who knows these days. have a great trip. 1
alloy Posted August 2, 2022 Author Posted August 2, 2022 Thanks! Going on a dune buggy trip that goes through a tobacco farm. Hope to get a farm rolled or two. 1
JohnS Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 At the very least @alloy, I hope you have a great time! 1
Chibearsv Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 First, to answer your question...no, that's not enough cigars. I've been there 3 times. The cigar shop in the hotel had a nice pricey selection of CC and NC but I wouldn't trust that CCs are legit from there. Be prepared to be HOT! so look for shady spots. I spent a lot of time on my shaded patio with a book and cigars. Bought fakes on the beach the first time we went that were delicious cigars. Coffee shop and Ice Cream Shop were daily stops for us. @Rhinoww is spot on with the recommendation to find your beach spot on the far right side. We were able to snag a cabana there every day and the cabana staff were happy to run for food and beverages. If you golf, the course is fun and just a quick golf cart drive from the hotel. Have fun!
Rhinoww Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Like @Chibearsv I bought some fakes on the beach. RYJ Belicoso. They were actually pretty good. In retrospect though mind blowing bad fakes, I didn’t know any better - but likely rebranded Dominican RyJ Belicosos.

That's too funny.

My argument to myself was who would go to the trouble of counterfeiting that cigar? Monte Cohiba I get. RyJ Belis made no sense to me. I still have one left. 1

Popular Post alloy Posted August 10, 2022 Author Popular Post Posted August 10, 2022 Well, we are back to Texas. It was nice enough, but won't be going back. We did a couple excursions: Evolution Boogie (buggie) ride where we in the group (about 10 of us) got a buggie to ride through great puddles of mud. It was a blast! Our clothes and shoes were ruined, but what the hell, it was a BLAST!!! The only restaurant we liked was the steakhouse Toro. The service was great and they had vodka and bourbon. Which the other two restaurants didn't have. The one supposed seafood restaurant (Isla), had only Jack Daniels, no vodka. My wife and I ordered the lobster bisque. It was tomato soup with no creme, sherry or lobster! The Brazilian steakhouse didn't have vodka or bourbon. It was a buffet and I was ready for some steak. The chef cut the ends off the steaks that were on skewers. The place was so dark, I couldn't see what was on my plate until I cut it and saw mostly fat. So disappointing. However, the electricity cut out once a day. The water shut off for about 4 hours a night (I'm old, need to take that 2:00am pee ya know...). Spent two glorious days in the cabanas at the beach. However, being on the Atlantic Ocean side, the sea was rough and there was a foot high and wide swath of seaweed before you could get to the water. We might have booked for seven days, but two of those were in all day travel. Spending 4-5 hours in Fort Lauderdale airport was very tiring. And this was going and coming. Southwest should be able to do much better. Smoked one cigar a night when the wife went to bed. Bought some JL2's, BRC's, HDM EE's and BPC's to bring home. Breezed through customs. They are in the freezer now for a couple of days. So all in all, would go back to the Cove in Atlantis. 5
