Ken Gargett Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 so it is pretty much business as usual for the commodes, at least since slimy dan took over. we have slimy dan turning down yet another 'invitation' to appear before congress (or whatever version does these things), because it was not convenient - i'll bet it is not convenient. can't imagine slimy dan wants to explain why this once great franchise is now a cesspool in every way. i assume a subpoena is next on dan's agenda. then we have the defensive coordinator coming out with blatantly provocative political comments. whatever side you are on, jack, stop and think about your audience. you spend all day with people who might be deeply offended by those comments. try reading the room. beyond belief. so his coach, whom one suspects might also be fairly miffed by the comments for several reasons, fines him $100,000. i'm sure they are forming a tight knit team that will work happily together. the following week the coach himself is fined $100,000 by the NFL and the team docked practice days because the practices were a bit rough. seriously? it is hardly a non-contact sport. if it was april 1st, i could believe it. on the field, we are still wondering if anyone involved with the commodes can spell linebacker, let alone know what one is (the irony of this is that both the coach and the defensive coordinator were linebackers, the coach for the 85 bears!!). first job in the off-season was shoring up the linebacker position. it didn't happen. free agency, we need a LB. nope. draft? forget it? after the draft, we'd pick up a good vet. still no. at the moment, good luck working out who is playing LB for us. a few hours work once a week for a few months and a starting salary of around a mill? how hard can it be to find someone? but finally, we do have one player who is a star, WR Terry McLaurin. while every other team on the planet is throwing massive dosh at WRs to keep them or get them, we have one who simply wants to be paid fairly. we have the money. can we get a deal done? spare me! if you are thinking well, perhaps he is not that important, consider this. in the last three years, the guy who is second for receiving yards for us is our TE, who has just over 900 yards. in total, for three years. first, despite receiving passes from 9, yes 9, different QBs, being double-teamed non-stop as we have no one else they need to worry about, different coaches and the commodes ability to stuff up anything good, terry M has over 3,000 yards for the three years. he is a superstar. he is a team captain. he has been an absolute role model off the field and on it. PAY HIM. fortunately, help is on the way. things have got so bad that a fan called tyler mccracken has set up a GoFundMe page seeking $23 mill to pay for terry to stay with us. the commodes' front office should hang their heads in shame. slimy dan? they should just hang him. 1
Woody Hayes Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Ken, Have you ever made a mistake and articulated a dumb statement? I assume you are referring to the "it was just a dust up" comment? I don't think it was provocative. Dumb yes, inaccurate big time. But does that inappropiate statement warrant $100,000 out of the man's pocket? I totally agree with all of your other comments regarding the team. This total annihilation of people and their livelihoods for some benign or a little over the top comments is out of control. People are walking on eggshells today. Just look how the mob came for Dave Chappelle. 1 1

This total annihilation of people and their livelihoods for some benign or a little over the top comments is out of control. People are walking on eggshells today. Just look how the mob came for Dave Chappelle. first, as rob says, absolutely. far too often. some have cost me big time in various ways. others less so. but we all have. but it is hard to imagine he had no clue of the possible effect his comments might have and the reaction. we need to be very careful we don't turn this into a debate that transgresses foh rules, and my intention is most definitely not to do that. i have no problem with del rio or anyone having the right to say what he thinks (provided not hate speech or inciting violence - best we don't look at whether the comments go there for this and let's assume they don't) but there is a time and place. you need to pick your moments. when i was a lawyer, i had clients who were truly stupid people and others who were unquestionably scumbags (fortunately, they were very much in the minority thanks to the sort of law i practiced). it is a bit like me coming out at an event for clients and announcing that certain business practices were disgraceful etc etc and deliberately antagonising a number of clients. it may be true that those practices were disgraceful but saying so in those circumstances would be really dumb and almost certainly get me fired. this is not far from that in some respects. del rio has to face guys he almost certainly pissed off every day and try and get them to work their hardest for him and the team. if these guys think for an instant that this is what the team believes or represents then the locker room is lost and yet another dismal season awaits. that may still happen. the team (well, ron as he seems the only grown up they have left) needed to act and did so. also, i suspect that jack gets paid way more than most of us so $100K to him might not be what it is to some of us. there were many calls for him to be sacked. personally, i think the team handled it as well as they could. they needed to make a statement that this is not what the team believes and they are going to oppose any such suggestion. the fine does that. a small fine and someone else thinks well i can cop that and i'll have my say. this shut it down. he has a track record of such comments so this will make him think very carefully about what he says in future. if he thought it excessive, he could have quit. or not said it in the first place. i have no doubt, given his track record, he knew exactly what he was doing. this is all fine line stuff. i think ron was in a difficult position and handled it about as well as he could (i would suggest that $100K for a tough practice was way more excessive than this). i think that if Dan was handling it, he would have given del rio a bonus (though it would have been tiny because he is a serious tightarse) and praised him, just in case there was anyone left in DC or the locker room who doesn't hate Dan. 2
alloy Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Who cares? Snyder is a piece of excrement and so is del rio. Riveira tries at least to do something right And who cares if you had stupid clients? Skins fans don't care. We just want the donkey dan removed!

Congress needs to have him sell! exactly. we all care. we just wish we cared about something other than a team owned by dan. i moved to DC late 80s. never occurred to me that they would not always be a great team winning far more than their share of superbowls. then along comes dan. unthinkable. not sure if congress can force him to sell - suspect not though it would be great if they gave him so many problems, he felt forced to. the NFL on the other hand, with the owners, certainly could have a crack. shame on them for not expelling this garbage years ago. i suspect the revelation that he was pinching crowd money from them made him no friends. dan going would be the christmas present to end all christmas presents.

I agree with you completely! I moved with my family to DC (Maryland) in 66. Sonny to Walter(the flea) Roberts became my favorite tandem. Not going to get into the reason for the fine, just that when you are paid a significant amount, fines have to be commensurable.

SCgarman Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 In my opinion if Snyder is guilty of all the sexual abuse he is accused of, he certainly belongs in prison period. Just think, he is married, and a billionaire. He can certainly afford the finest escorts to fulfill his needs. Being an NFL owner should command much better behavior of a man of his stature rather than using your power to sexually harass non consenting women who work for the organization. What a low life extraordinaire. The whole organization has been an utter shiite show ever since he bought the team. Biggest embarrassment in the NFL. 4

jakebarnes Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 I mean...Snyder has a pick axe and is ready to ensure your ever-low expectations are somehow to your detriment.
La_Tigre Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Reality? There’s no NFL if today’s court of public opinion is broadly applied to the events of the past in any team’s history. But, sure, I’ll play outraged like the rest of the sinless and preoffended online…

We’d need to remove the entire infrastructure and hit the reset button. Anything else is targeting who we don’t like and destroying them.

Gotcha. BTW if it was your daughter that he allegedly groped, you would be OK with that?
Corylax18 Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Meanwhile Deshaun Watson is probably going to be suspended for a year because he loved his "Rub and Tugs" a bit too much. Meanwhile we have guys like Jerry Jones, Jimmy Haslem and Robert Craft helping each other get away with it. Talk about a double standard. I have to agree with @SCgarman, its hard to find anybody innocent in the group. They should all be held to a MUCH higher standard than the players on their respective team's, but its the exact opposite. I'm sure that plenty of the owners have never engaged in any type of sexual misconduct. But ALL of them have helped each other get away with it. MULTIPLE times. Its like the Vatican trying to play innocent at this point. You cant allow and enable decades of abuse then play the Saint. Has everyone here forgotten that Robert Craft literally walked out of an "Asian Massage" parlor, was driven to his private jet and flew straight to the Super Bowl a few years ago? Meanwhile they punish the players for far less to make it APPEAR like they really care. It's all pretty shameful when you really look at it. Especially considering how much money these owners pay through lobbyist to ensure the League keep its federally protected Antitrust rights. 18 hours ago, Woody Hayes said: Ken, Have you ever made a mistake and articulated a dumb statement? He didn't misspeak, this wasn't a Bushism/Biden Gaff. He believed/believes what he said and was too spineless to stand behind it. He only "apologized" so he wouldn't lose his job. Stupid and a Coward. Not the character traits I would look for in a leader of Men, but it seems to align perfectly with the rest of the organization. Del Rio is still going to make several million dollars this year and Chapelle is doing as well as he ever has, so I'm not sure who/what we're supposed to be feeling bad for? 7 hours ago, La_Tigre said: We’d need to remove the entire infrastructure and hit the reset button. Anything else is targeting who we don’t like and destroying them. perhaps we are at cross purposes but i really don't understand. surely, as far as this post is concerned re dan (and it was originally simply because i was amused that a fan had to start a GoFundMe page to resign mclaurin), it is simple. if the guy has transgressed and committed any offence then he should face the appropriate investigation and penalties if found guilty. all the rest of it is irrelevant. i'm not disagreeing that other owners should most likely have faced similar or that they haven't protected their own. and certainly not condoning that. but it doesn't change dan's actions and what should happen. restructuring the entire thing is a different matter. as for watson, his actions have nothing to do with dan's and should be dealt with accordingly. it really is not that difficult. or at least it shouldn't be. 1
