To be honest I'm not too concerned about a new prohibition in Europe... The original prohibition in the US got a lot of support from religious groups and women (not the flappers 1%ers obviously but everyone else) who were not consuming alcohol and were tired of their husbands getting wasted and then beating them at home. Now religious groups have less power than in the early 1900s but most importantly women now are as likely to be drinkers as men so a new push for prohibition will be lacking this critical support.

Obviously the idea that people have learnt nothing from the past is quite disturbing, but not really surprising...

There is too much tax money on alcohol and politicians don't want to give that up.  Nor do they want to be in a position for an easy lay up by an incumbent.

Oh come on, don’t be so easily manipulated. This is just clickbait to stir up freedom lovin’ passions. Europe is going to ban wine like America is going to ban cheeseburgers.

There is a movement in the States to ban meat.

... oh yeah? Ask where the income tax came from. The cancellation of tax revenue from alcohol sales during prohibition, brought in the income tax. Pretty easy to bring in a VAT tax to cover any hole. When it comes to taxes, our friends in government are not at all short on new ideas!!!
