Interesting experiment.
Thanks for posting this.

A little surprised they chose 70% as the rh to bring them all too.

I would have thought they would have bitterness and burn problems and such a high rh.

Apparently not though, which is nice to know

My take is that the main issue was humidity. The humidor cigars were stored at 70% and all the cigars were rested at 70% for 4 weeks. So the humidor cigars were at the perfect humidity level for the test.

The fridge cigars and the wine sellar cigars were not stored at 70% and might need much longer than 4 weeks to stabilize at 70%. This is not to say the fridge cigars weren't ruined. But the similar results between fridge and cellar makes me think it's acclimatization.

I may be missing something but is it any great surprise that a box of cigars placed in a refrigerator for any significant period of time, underperformed?

Yeah, this article makes NO sense.  I guess the Sarkisian's (Davidoff of London) and others are idiots for storing their cigars in the 50's.    You had to pretty much ignore this article once they mentioned 70% storage.  They move it to different temps and don't adjust for humidity.  Not essential reading.  I hope nobody takes this article seriously.

Their "conclusion"  cubans are best stored at 70% humidity where the temp fluctuate between 66 and 82 degrees.    Solid advise.  How did this garbage get published?

Do people actually keep their cigars in the refrigerator? Next to the leftovers from Sunday dinner?

My dad kept his Monte Puritos there, until I got him some bovedas.

Edit: In the butter drawer.

You’re a good son Bijan! I really had never heard of anyone doing it for long-term storage.

He generally gets 50 at a time and smokes about one a day or maybe every other day, so it wasn't more than a few months, half a year tops. But they did survive better in the fridge than just laying around at inside humidity levels in the winter or in summer with the AC.

Did the cigars get any nuttiness from being in the butter drawer?
