Popular Post Habana Mike Posted March 1, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 1, 2021 A good friend and well known vintage collector in Southern California sent me this one recently. Has the A band. Caramel wrapper with a few veins. Very solid construction. Clipped it open and thankfully the draw was just right. I’ve found you can suck on these older cigars for a few minutes prior to lighting and experience a myriad of notable flavors. This primarily with a faint mustiness, mushroom/forest floor. Hint of sweetness and cedar holding it all together. Lit up at 2:15PM Sunday afternoon. Light breeze, low humidity, 77 degrees. Sparked it up and started the journey. Earth, cedar and marshmallow out of the gate. Medium-full bodied with decent smoke production. Here's a sun vs. shade pic Listening to a bit of funky jazz. Black coffee and ice water. Burn line slightly off, hoping it self-corrects. Firm, solid light gray ash Hancock, Weather Report, Gil Scott-Heron. Partly cloudy with sun breaking through on and off. Breeze picks up occasionally and then subsides. Quite pleasant all around. Our twenty-something cat suddenly appears on the deck. She’d been relegated to the basement recently due to some unfortunate incontinence on a few of our rugs. Essentially has her own apartment with staff and service. I’d left a window open for her down there and she managed to push the screen open and slip through. Failed to snap a pic. About a third of the way in the burn evens out. The marshmallow sweetness intensifies. Very slight white pepper on the retrohale. Compost or manure hints. No, it doesn’t tastes like shit. Just past the halfway point, and a while after I had finished my coffee, I start to pick up some espresso bean. Sweetness has faded into the background. Dark earth. Retrohale pepper more present. Cat has been hanging out by the back door wanting to get in. I refuse her as my wife would not be pleased I am sure. The cigar finishes strong, leaving a coating of cedar and spun sugar on the palate. 75 minutes of pleasure. All and all quite good. 90 pointer. 19
SpecialK Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Nice Review.... and in regards to the Cat.. my wife's Yorkie is referred to as "5 lbs of incontinence" 1
NSXCIGAR Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Interesting choice! You don't see 80-90s BPC/BCJ pop up anywhere much anymore. Sounds like this one might have underdelivered a bit. I do miss those old Boli bands though! Takes me back. 1
unclepauly25 Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 Nice review, love the ashtray too! How would you compare those to current production?

Completely different smokes. Different tobaccos used back then. Even the '98s were no match. Can't imagine what it would have been like fairly fresh. 1
helix Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 HAHA forest floor know exactly what you mean.. we have all had a mouthful if you spent anytime in the woods . Thanks for sharing .
avaldes Posted March 1, 2021 Posted March 1, 2021 That earthy, kind of musty flavor in old Bolivars is really unmistakable. Makes me think of a dark brown color, if that makes any sense. I sure wish they tasted like that now!! I still like Bolivars today, they are just different. 1
