Popular Post Kaptain Karl
Opens with a blast of spice and some creaminess in the background. I can’t remember another from the 30 I’ve smoked from this cab that has had so much spice up front. Half way into the 1/3 the spice drops off completely and is replaced by milky cream and slight Carmel. The second third sees a continuation of the sweetness with some spice joined in. It settles into this flavor profile, which is light in flavor and richness, and is rather uninteresting. However, the construction is perfect. I pitched it half way through the last third as I had to get going. I’ll give this one a 75 rating of good. Construction/burn was good, but the flavors were just very muted besides the spice blast initially. I think I’ll let this cab rest another 6 months. I had some really great examples from this cab but it’s seemed to have turned flat a bit the past few months.
rcarlson
I've got the same cab and have yet to dip into them. Mine are much darker and practically dripping in oil. I thought I I'd get into them some time later next year. Hoping to hit the caramel"everyone describes with the 4-5 yrs on them. Been working on some LGR MAR 18's for a while. No spice whatsoever, but unmistakable sugar cane. If that's where the 17's were a year ago, I'll remain optimistic that caramel will come along with these. Good luck.
prshah25
I hope you get the elusive caramel 2-3 years down the toad. I have been chasing it from a while with no success.
JZBdano
8 left in my PLPC EML MAY 14 cab. Nice colorado maduro color, decent sheen, cracked it at the 5yr mark. Caramel has increased quite a bit in 16 months, it wasn't very noticeable at first. Could also be that they needed a year to acclimate to 5% lower rh in my smoking humidor. I've smoked more out of that cab than any other box the last 3 months. Now I finally get why people like em.

Funny, I also have this same cab, and just broke into it after ordering another. Dark wrappers with medium sheen. I have smoked two sticks from the cab so far and would say they were enjoyable but didn’t quite hit the flavor profile so many here talk about. I’ll smoke the other few in my upstairs humidor and let the rest of this cab sit for a while. Funny that three years in and they need more time. We will see...
