Popular Post TobaccoRoad
My very first cigar review so we'll see how this goes. The decision as to which cigar to smoke for the review was pretty easy. I only have two options with a ring gauge bigger than 49 in my very modest newb collection so a mental coin flip came out in favor of this Partagas Serie D No. 4. It was given to me by one of my cigar buddies. So I don't know the box code or date. Prelight: Beautiful light hued wrapper with a nice firm roll. Just a little give when squeezed and nicely constructed. I went with a straight cut and was rewarded with a good cold draw, just a little resistance and a hint of spice. First third: Starts out woody with some baking spices. The retrohale is an awesome cinnamon. Reminds me of fresh home made cookies. One of my favorite starts to a cigar ever in my limited experience. Second third: Starts out the same but then the woody flavor goes away and is replaced with a tangy flavor. Not quite citrus, the word to describe it just kept popping in my head as zesty. I'm not sure that's a flavor but I'm calling it zesty anyway. Whatever it was, I loved it. The retro has morphed into a light pepper. Final third: The zesty is gone. Back to a woody flavor but a little bitter. But the retro is making up for it. Now it's a light caramelized sugar. As I peel the band off I'm already digging for my nubbing tool. I want to smoke this as long as it will go. Construction: Spot on. I'm a very slow smoker (burn time on this one was 90 minutes) so I struggle sometimes keeping a cigar going. This cigar suited my pace perfectly. No relights and every time I was ready for a puff, the cigar was ready too. Conclusion: I've only been smoking CC's for a little over a year. My usual smokes are more towards the Cheap & Cheerful range. So it's obvious to me I need to pony up the dough and start smoking a little better CC's. This cigar is most definitely on my ever expanding list of future box purchases. Score: 9 out of 10
