thestogiewhisperer Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Does anyone here have an opinion on what marcas benefit more from either dryboxing or an hour in the fridge prior to smoking ? I've recently taken to the fridge technique and love it, it really helped enhance the flavours in my RASS and Picadores however in my Upmann Majestic and Epi 2 that I tried it seemed to mute the flavours a little however still improved the burn. Thinking this could also be down to potentially testing the theory with a lesser epi 2 or Majestic but with my RASS it brought out a dark chocolate that I haven't experienced prior from a RASS and brought out some spice in the Picadores. Any thoughts ? 1
LordAnubis Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 I don't think any of the maduros do well with drier wrappers. That's all i can add to this. 2
DeskSmkr Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 I don’t know enough to answer with fact. my current hypothesis is a tighter/denser roll may be better dryer Looser may be better with more moisture I like the fridge technique also and have been using it 2
mprach024 Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 I have zero science behind this nor have I done any true comparisons. But I think sticks that have creamier notes to them (or ones you want to taste that), benefit from a bit of a higher humidity. By that I mean 65rh, straight from humidor. For me I think Epicures, Mag50s, Coloniales where if they are too dry the cream is replaced with a papery/dried wood characteristic that I’m not a fan of. Other flavors pop out more but I lose the cream I want in those sticks. I could be completely wrong. 3
Cigarsmoker81 Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 Sorry but I’m not familiar with the fridge technique, can someone kindly explain ? Thanks ?

mprach024 Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 Uncut I would think. I only ever cut right before I intend to smoke. Cut cigars are construction risks.
thestogiewhisperer Posted November 5, 2020 Author Posted November 5, 2020 Yeah I always put mine in the fridge uncut. Just smoked a monte 2 using this method and it worked great
John Morris Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 Never tried or heard of this, but I always dry box, some longer than others. Will try this tonight, but I have a question from those that do this. Do you place in the fridge for x amount of minutes/hours and then light right away? Or do you wait for x amount of minutes after taken out of fridge? I’m thinking if you don’t wait, the heat will make tobacco expand and the wrapper split.
mprach024 Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 I take it out of fridge, usually lighting it within 20 min. Doesn’t stay cold for very long 1
BlueRidgeFly Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 A bunch of RASS and RASCC I've had definitely benefited. I have some tightly rolled Connie A's and it helped them. Seems to help in the cooler weather, and humid weather too.

I live in the UK where it’s currently winter and have noticed less cracked wrappers from smoking in the cold using this method. also in regards to the previous question, I also tend to smoke mine within 10-20 mins or removing from the fridge. I have only tried 1 hour in the fridge but will try 2 soon and let you guys know
