StogieSteve23 Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Some of the things in this article are rather funny to me. I smoke 1 stick a day usually during the week (unless out on the road working, then its could be 12-20 or more a week) and maybe none on the weekends, but being holed up at home during COVID, its more like 2-4 a day during the week and almost none on the weekends. I find it passes the time working from home on the porch much easier and makes work/Zoom calls all the more enjoyable. Boredom could be a large factor for a lot of people and just having so much disposable time on your hands, but that's just my two cents.
HerrHonaker Posted August 5, 2020 Posted August 5, 2020 Glad to see my alma mater is tackling the tough topics in the research world! This part got me: "We are not sure why many participants reported increasing their tobacco use, but it is possible that they are stressed or anxious, they are bored at home, they stockpiled tobacco products in advance of sheltering-in-place orders..." The answer to all is YES!

I can smoke while working now, and I never want to go back to the office. I have more disposable income because I don't need to commute so I'm fully stocked! 1
kalibratecuba Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 I have definitely smoked many of my special occasion cigars, which I would not have pre-COVID. Carpe Puros!Sent from my GM1917 using Tapatalk
Str8BlkCoffee Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 I can attest to this. I went from smoking 2-3 weekly to 7+. Since we were mandated to stay inside for 22 hours a day for an entire month distractions were needed. Things that normally filled time became mundane and tedious. One had to get creative to not go stir-crazy. Coffee and cigars were my go to, but that was only an hour or so out of very, very long days. ? I began smoking my pipes more as I was burning down my CCs. When FOB informed me that no deliveries were available to my area I made a Hail Mary order for some pipe tobacco which made it in country, but due to lock-down initiatives/ measures it took nearly 2 months to pick up. ?
PigFish Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 ... damn! I have had to work my ass off during this bullshit! Some people get all the breaks!!! ?
tigger Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 A bit more here, but I wasn't smoking that much to begin with. I've gone from 1-2 a week to 3-5 a week. Doesn't have anything to do with stress, just extra time on my hands...I don't commute anymore (WFH permanently), and we go out much less than we used to. Plus there have been lots of nice weather evenings this summer.
Akela3rd Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 ... damn! I have had to work my ass off during this bullshit! Some people get all the breaks!!! This .I'm actually having a week off work soon. First time off this year. I'm still not convinced it's going to happen... Sent from Cosmos Redshift 7

NickfromNY Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 So last year (summer), I was smoking 2 cigars a week, this year due to COVID I smoke about 5 a week. With the extra time of not committing I find myself smoking more during the week than I normally would.
Connoisseur Kim Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 Well, I can't puff CCs in my house, so mine is still same as usual LOL ?

Damn glad to be working myself. My humor with me team when they ask me about taking a break, I say I am saving my time for my next trip to the hospital.

eldude Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 There is something really great about getting a cigar in while working from home. Especially on long or all hands zoom calls.
GavLew79 Posted August 7, 2020 Posted August 7, 2020 I often pair cigars with tasty (read: alcoholic) beverages. It's a hell of a lot easier to justify 'having a few' if you don't have an 06:00 alarm and 07:30 commute! I suspect my cigar and alcohol consumption are through the roof. At some point I'll have to cool it. That will be a sad day.
