Wondering if there is something akin to a master list of 50 cabs in current production?  Or if there’s a resource to seek out to find one?

Posted

The list is pretty short. Off the top of my head you have:

- Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas

- Partagas Lusitanias

- Punch Double Coronas

- Ramon Allones Specially Selected

- Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2

- Por Larranaga Petit Coronas

- Partagas Shorts

I have all of them.  In multiples except for the Punch DC which I have one.  All acquired here and I believe all have also been offered in the past 12 months.

Thanks for responding guys.  I’m striking out on Sancho Panza’s at the moment.  And am VERY new to the cuban cigar pursuit.  So that being said, I’m figuring that 50 cabs may require a larger up front investment, but will save time, effort, and possibly coin and anxiety long term!

Update from other @JohnS thread:

Thank you. I can't specifically remember why I set the cut-off date at 2005. It may have been due to practicality and limiting the length of each list. The current list is as follows:-

1) Partagas Shorts (42 x 110 Petit Corona)

2) Por Larranaga Petit Coronas (42 x 129 Petit Corona)

3) Hoyo de Monterrey Double Coronas (49 x 194 Double Corona)

4) Partagas Lusitanias (49 x 194 Double Corona)

5) Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No.2 (50 x 124 Robusto)

6) Ramon Allones Specially Selected (50 x 124 Robusto)

Please note, the following are listed as in production on Cuban Cigar Website currently, in 50 cab packaging, but I have not seen any examples for at least three years or more:-

1) Juan Lopez Seleccion No.1 (46 x 143 Grand Corona)

2) Juan Lopez Seleccion No.2 (50 x 124 Robusto)

The following is listed as discontinued on Cuban Cigar Website in 2017, in 50 cab packaging, but has been seen in production in 2018:-

1) Punch Double Coronas (49 x 194 Double Corona)

Welcome to the sport! Not sure about time/effort/anxiety and 50 cabs generally cost roughly the same in terms of cost per cigar as a 25er. I think it all boils down to the belief that cabs age better and obviously a bigger box is just more appealing (when discussing cigars anyway).

I guess you’d also want to include the current Kon Tiki though not a regular production.

I personally wouldn’t seek out a cigar based on it being available in a 50 cab. I am not a fan of Hoyo DC, so have no interest in a 50 cab of them. Lusis I have a bunch of 50 cabs.

Great point, when it comes to the lusis , Hoyo DC, and punch DC....I’m a fan of the size and would love to pick up 50 cabs for consistency through the cab, and the buy it, rest it, try it, rest it, try it...etc.

box-press vs non box-press might be an issue also (for some).

JL 2 I believe is still listed but not seen. Might be a good question for the supply thread.

Discontinued in 50s in 2013, as per HSA. No idea which actual box dates were the last.

I have a 50 cab of Punch Churchills but it’s short about 45 sticks...??

Juan Lopez has a 50 cab too

If it hasn't been produced in over 4 years, it's discontinued in my mind. I wouldn't expect it to come back. In fact, I expect most of the 50 cabs to be discontinued or going towards that at any rate.

I don't count any EL or ER as there have been several along with the Kon Tiki that have been released thus far (i.e. PL Coronas-5te Ave.)

50 cabs will always be near and dear to me. Just something about having 50 cigars bundled together makes me happy. And aged 50s....5 yrs....10 yrs...opening that cab is indescribable usually. Just amazing

They don't currently produce JL No. 2 in a 50 cab?  Could've sworn I've seen for sale at B&M's today.

I may be in the minority, but I seek out the 25er usually instead.  Dress box saves a lot of space vs. 50 cab.  I don't have endless storage, so any 50 cab really needs to be a stategic decision.  Years ago when I had more room I was buying 50 cabs, but none were replaced.  I am down only two 50 cab's remaining in my cabinet.

They do take up a lot of room but are a lot like having two boxes of 25. Dress boxes are much more conducive to Tetris, though.

When I think about the Double Coronas, it is a lot to commit to in 50. If you don’t like the box, you’ve a loooong way...although I suspect a 5 y/o 50 cab of DC will trade quickly. ??

Maybe, but it'd been sitting there for awhile then. I *think* the last box code I saw was somewhere between 4 and 7 years old at this point. Between that and the 50 cabs of H.Upmann Mag series, I'm hoping some more will appear on FOHAuctions
