Popular Post Ken Gargett Posted November 27, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 27, 2019 just had one. in a voice which you just know does not have english as one of their first languages, or even as a language they can get by in - hello sir. i am collecting for blah blah blah. i can't quite make it out. you are collecting on behalf of sharks and wildlife? (which was actually what i thought she said). no sir, blah blah blah. why are you collecting for sharks? no sir. this goes on for far longer than she should have tolerated. i finally work out it is for health and wellness, but it still sounds like sharks and wildlife. i still don't understand why you would collect for sharks? is it to catch them or are they hurt? no sir. and on we go. some days just keep giving. a mate used to start, when the bloke says ,'good morning, my name is david', with, 'well we both know that isn't true'. and downhill from there. this one is my all time fave, though. 1 5
Chibearsv Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 In the US we get calls from robot recordings so we don't get the fun of playing with a live caller. The most popular one I get is something like "call us immediately or you may have your property seized or the authorities will issue a subpoena for your arrest". I always wonder who would actually believe this nonsense but some people must since the calls don't stop. I must have blocked over 100 numbers so far. I appreciate your spirit. I hope you are helping those sharks, they must need it. 1
Fuzz AI Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I like to play with the dudes who call up saying they are from Telstra, and claim that you have a virus in your computer. My all time record was keeping a dude on the phone for over an hour before he finally swore and hung up. And in case anyone is wondering why I would waste one whole hour of my time, I didn't. I was actually watching TV while he was on the phone waiting (nobody calls my landline any more, I just keep it for 000 emergencies). I kept asking to hold a minute as I "tried"to boot up my computer (I said, "It's probably that damned virus that is slowing my computer down"). 1

LordAnubis Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Best I’ve done is had a mate next to me yell stuff as if I was holding him captive and we’d thump the table etc and yell “don’t you bloody move or I’ll cut the other finger off”. When I asked him if he could “google how to dissolve human skin real quick” he hung up..... the heartless prick didn’t even call the cops ? 1 1

CaskStrength Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I like letting them finish their pitch and say I'm going to go get my credit card. Then put phone down and see how long it takes them. The longer they stay on the phone with me, the fewer people they can scam.
anacostiakat Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 Just had one at 8:25 AM EST from the Police Alliance. Whoever they are. Wife is home on leave and insists on answering the phone.
Wookie Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I don't answer the phone unless I recognize the caller. It's that bad. 2
El Hoze Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I get calls/voicemail messages saying this is the IRS, if you do not call us back immediately a warrant will be issued for your arrest. No matter how many times I get them I always have to laugh....clearly they must be effective for some people, which is fairly amazing.

Now I'm getting calls from medical administrators about social security disability. I don't answer anymore. Just turn the phone down and then block them. I must have over 200 numbers blocked. I've lost count. Now my phone I guess has a spam filter, as some calls are coming in as "Potential Spam". I wonder if I change my number if they will stop?
JY0 Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 During the last election we gave up. We cancelled our land line. I have YouMail on my iPhone. Between that and the new OS screening filters we don't get those calls anymore. The iPhone doesn't ring when the contact isn't your phonebook.

Any number of my friends have talked about getting those calls and always calling their bluff until they hang up. Usually it's "Heather from credit card services!" that we get our calls from. What tells me these are sophisticates from over seas is the caller ID no. that is always either local or double-lined. You click it to call back just to see and it's always "This number is no longer in service" or "This number cannot accept calls at this time..." Also the call back numbers show legitimate businesses like "Ray's Bar-B-Cue" and even the local hospitals and medical clinics. For God's sake we've even had OUR OWN phone number shown as the call back number! Yeah, they're a really Royal pain in the tushy 1
