Erm... If kept in a cool, humid place out of direct sunlight then......yeah I guess. But I'm all seriousness no, I think these came from an era when salesmen had to put on a show, and actively display their wares.  I think another factor would be that aging wasn't a real consideration back then, it would of been a simple case of buy to smoke....repeat

That's true, long term storage wasn't available for many things. Imagine keeping meat prior to freezers :(
