A petit jet black haired beauty with big brown eyes and an intoxicating smile. She caught my eye after almost running her over with a speed cart full of various cuts of prime beef while she was stooped down collecting celery from the bottom shelf of the walk in cooler. After a few weeks of flirtatious exchanges of workplace banter and kitchen pranks I decided to make a move. Having recently bought a house I decided to throw a party to break it in...really it was designed more to see her outside of work without putting myself out there too much. As much as I tried to act confident I was not. The party was a success, my attempt to see her outside of work was not. There is nothing worse then being surrounded by a bunch of friends and acquaintances but not being with the one person you wanted there. I smoked my sorrows away with a Casa Magna Colorado Robusto...CA followers can guess the year. Although, I lost that battle I am happy to report that I won the war. I continued to pursue her and a few weeks later we had our first date. Although she doesn't smoke cigars she has always support my love of them and I've enhanced many nights of sipping wine in her presence on the patio with a fine cigar. We have been married now for almost 7 years with 2 boys of our own and I adopted her daughter who is now a teenager?.? On to the 898, it is a bit young but smoking quite well already. The flavors aren't quite as pronounced as I would like but they consist of slight black pepper, toasted tobacco, the infamous Cuban twang and a faint sweetness I couldn't make out until I recalled El Presidente's "hint of date" description. I'm hopeful with some more time down the pepper will fade and the date will be a bit more pronounced. It has complexity with flavors transitioning a couple times. Those other flavors are hiding in the elbows itching to announce themselves in the near future as I couldn't quite make the out yet. I have a a box of april '18's that are already bloody brilliant...just insane flavor intensity, especially with the date sweetness.
