Leon8716 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 I came across a box of apparent vintage montes 4. They’re on a local “seek you stuff” page. They are described as approx 1995 and bought in 1997. Stored on dry conditions() and opened only twice. I’ve done a bit of research online looking to verify the box code but can’t seem to see anything. They do look quite genuine but hopefully somebody on here can shed some light. They are going very cheap!! But as they were no stored correctly in 25 odd years it could also be a problem. Any help??
rcarlson Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Stored in dry conditions? I wouldn't fuss with it any further. 3
Colt45 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 The CSC would translate to July '97. SS for a Sancti Spiritus factory. Unsure about the 2. 2
Fuzz Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 CSC-SS-2 = July 1997, Sancti Spiritus factory 2 3
Derboesekoenig Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Why are the pictures so blurry? It's 2019, that drives me crazy lol tell them take better pictures. Anyone with a smartphone that was made in the last 5 years and is not blind can take better pictures...just saying. 2
Lotusguy Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 After 25 years of dry storage, these would be for decoration only. 1

Pass on them. 5 hours ago, Fuzz said: CSC-SS-2 = July 1997, Sancti Spiritus factory 2 Fuzz if it were from 1997, shouldn't it be coded using the NIVEL ACUSO system? July 97 would be OCSC. I've seen a lot of blunders in cuban boxes. Not sure I've ever seen a 3-character NIVEL ACUSO stamp though. The font looks a little off too. I'm not trying to make some kind of Poirot-esque counterfeit detector super sleuth decree - just saying my intuition is telling me something is off. 2

But you should try and gather more info. This is an import into the UK. Are they still being sold from there? Any (credible) info on the whereabouts in between? When of British provenance, then "dry" storage is a relative statement. 2

They’re going for 100€ on the site. I’d say they were bought in the UK and brought over to the south west of Ireland. Annual relative humidity is between 77-79. Should I be worried about the box code though?

Ireland is a good one actually, makes even more sense to me, as I was missing the H&F sticker, which had already been in use in '97 (and usually doesn't fall off easily). But the H&F-Export sticker, I guess, had only been in use a little later (perhaps our Irish friends can help with that info, as to which exact year?). If a legit box, the price seems good to me, even if stored outside a humi. Mind you, a lot of auctioned stuff, you'll never be really sure, even if a box sat in a collector's humi for the last 10 years. But sure, the risk is always on the buyer's side. A 1997-box is interesting. As for authenticity - always difficult to tell if not seen in life (and the pics are blurry, as others mentioned), but at least the warranty seal seems appropriate for that period. Don't want to talk you into something - but .... no risk, no fun....

Check out the date and factory code information on CubanCigarWebsite The NIVELACUSO system used both 3 and 4 digit codes for the month and year.

What about the stamp up the top left of the box would this be the H&F that you’re referring to? Don't want to talk you into something - but .... no risk, no fun.... I’ve sent him a private mail...might get some further info and better pictures

LGC Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I have a similar box code and same font. Most likely legit... but deader than...
