Popular Post LordAnubis Posted June 15, 2018 Popular Post Posted June 15, 2018 Eid Mubarak to all of my FoH brothers and sisters and your families. We have just finished our month of fasting and my first cup of coffee in a month went down a treat. So a bit about how Eid is announced. There’s a committee. As always. This ones called the moon sighting committee. They’re all around Australia and their job is to physically sight the crescent of the new. See Islamic months, being based on a lunar calendar, vary to either 29 days or 30 days. So the month of ramadhan can either be 29 days or 30 days long. So on the 29th day of ramadhan the committee gets their binoculars out and goes to sight the moon. Basically if anyone in Australia sees the moon then ramadhan is declared over and Eid is announced. If the moon is not sighted then you carry on and fast the 30th day and then ramadhan is over. This time there was some hilarious sequence of events. The moon was declared not seen everywhere. Then in the last minute out of the blue 5 people in some random small place declared they’d seen the moon and declared Eid. Now obviously no matter who sees the moon there is a process of corroboration of evidence and such. These 5 people were asked to come forward to verify their observations. 1 refused and so 4 were left. The 4 people were asked to give their testimony on the shahada (under oath). 2 refused and now there’s 2 left. The two that provided testimony had conflicting information. And hence Eid was declared on Saturday and not Friday. So there’s an insight into the hilarity that ensues when being a Muslim Today my family and I go to the mosque for morning prayers, then come back home and is just a day of visiting family and friends and trying to not go into a food coma after a month of fasting. The first people you visit on this day are the families of people who have passed away in the past year, and people with whom you may have had falling out etc. It’s a time of reflection, healing, love, laughter, friendship, celebration and devotion. I wish you all a wonderful day of Eid whether you are celebrating or not. May we all protect those who need our help, may we all be thankful for all that we have, may we all strive to improve ourselves and may we all be the light to make this world a better place. Ken Gargett Posted June 16, 2018 Posted June 16, 2018 happy eid, if that is appropriate. i thought this thread was about spotting the ex-leader of eygpt and i thought that could be smidge controversial. go and visit all those with whom one has fallen out. only a religion could come up with that (by the time i'd managed that, it would be fasting time again). i have to say that i do not recall bin laden knocking on the white house door to apologise to george B.
