SigmundChurchill Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I’m starting my search for a cigar to smoke on my 50th birthday. It is not until March, but I want something really special to mark the occasion, so I figured I better get an early start. I used to love Cuban Davidoffs when I could get my hands on them back in the 90s, but the last one I had back in 2010 was a Dom Perignon and it was either past it’s prime or it wasn’t stored very well. The flavor was there, but it was very faint. I can get my hands on a single Chateau Latour, from a reputable place, but I’m a little worried to spend that kind of cash if it is going to be a repeat performance of the Dom Perignon. I am also considering a Monte from the 2000 Jar. I never tried one, but if they are anywhere near as good as the Cohiba 2000 Jar, then that could be a good possibility as well. The last Dunhill Cabinetta I smoked was still amazingly flavorful about 10 years ago, but I’m not sure how attainable they are now. I would have to forego the other two and continue searching. Do you guys have any suggestions? If you could pick a single cigar for a special occasion, what would it be? 1
bman75 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 LGC MOD4...to show the level of restraint and nuisance year 50 brings. 3
havanaclub Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Smoke a Siglo VI... oh wait, you smoke those daily ???Try to find that cabinetta!! I am sure others in here with experience can let you know about that Davidoff. I guess it’s always a risk that it could be like smoking air. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 1 1
Puros Y Vino Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 If you look around enough, you might find a vendor or B/SOTL that has a cigar from your birth year they might be willing to sell/part with. That is if you want to smoke a birth year cigar vs any, vintage, desirable cigar. From my limited experience on the marca, the Chateau LaTour has more legs than the Dom P. Mine are from the mid 80's and smoke great. As for potentially epic smokes for a 50th birthday? I'd look into the following, vintage CoLa or Espy, HU Sir Winston, Monte A, Lusitania. From more "recent" releases: 2010/11 BHK54/56, Cohiba 1966, La Escepcion Selectos Finos, RA Estupendos, RA Grandes...Punch DC, basically something somewhat substantial and engaging to smoke. As for me, I have an old Punch Nectares set aside for when 50 years rolls around. Good luck with your search. 2
GotaCohiba Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I’d recommend a cheap regular production cigar Just as a reminder of how hard you have worked to this point in life to be able to smoke quality cigars daily Just my $.02 2 1
kwsaw63 Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 I have a box of 2003 Hoyo des Dieux from my birthday month (March) that I dip into once a year on my birthday. For your 50th, why limit yourself to one cigar? Have 2 or more! 1

It may be tough to find something from 1969, but if anyone comes across one, please let me know.

Why not have a few days of upper tier for the 5-0? 3
canadianbeaver Posted June 12, 2018 Posted June 12, 2018 Sounds like a great plan. Hope you find what you enjoy. Suggest a wonderful beverage too, and maybe a few friends. Seems a 1966 is a coveted white whale that everyone loves these days, with little risk. As well, the GR from your fave brand? Since your Davidoff is in the choice bracket, seems reasonable. Cheers! Chances are it wont be cheap but there's a good chance you'll find something.

It’s a shame because they always have the best selection of vintage, rare, and special cigars. Most of them used to ship here. I dont know what happened to make them stop.
Bill Hayes Posted June 14, 2018 Posted June 14, 2018 Best cigar I smoked this year was the Bushido, followed by a SLR DC from 2004. I wonder what a siglo 6 2003 would be like?
