Edeustace
i have throughly enjoyed many regular production cigars most of which would populate my top ten cigars. However there are those RE that I absolutely love and with the vast knowledge base here I would love to hear what your thoughts are about your favorite RE/LE that you would buy/smoke now or to age or enjoy at a later date. Thank you for your input and I look forward to your thoughts. Popular Post PigFish
Are REs and ELs more apt to give you greater smoking experience for the money? I mean if you buy 50 regular production cigars and say net 25 hours of excellent smoking experience (expecting 50% of them to be mediocre) or buy 10 aged REs for the same amount, do you get the same hours of excellent smoking experience? It is a value question. Lets say that you get lucky, and all 10 of the EL/REs are excellent and they are actually better than the regular production. The odds are not in favor of this. These are still Cuban cigars. Do the 10 cigars net you the taste you want for the time you want? I doubt it, but it is your money and your time, not mine. Are you better off smoking EL/REs or regular production and tossing the turds to get the most hours of real high quality smoking time? The question then becomes are you about quality smoking time and getting the most of it, or gaming on the low probability side and getting one or two gems that are better than you believe a regular production cigar will attain you? I am an odds gambler. I take the odds and use my 30+ years smoking to take me to the best cigars that have stellar reputations with me, not a bunch of guys who I don't know have taste at all half way around the globe... I use a heuristic method to fill my humidor, and I suggest the same. What regular production do you like? And, what are your odds in getting the best cigar for you cash? Fill your locker with those. Food for thought! -Piggy 4
Edeustace
That is a great point, I throughly enjoy many regular production as my love for them dominate my collection. The LE/RE stock I have for the most part lies in singles not boxes. My go to smokes are RASS and Punch Punch which are amazing most of the time as I have had very few that were not stellar. I always find it interesting to see others thoughts as I know that I do not know everything, over the past 20 years I continue to learn. The value that I place in regards to my time is quite high with stress from job and life in general if I have to spend a lot for an hours worth of enjoyment then so be it. I greatly appreciate your input and I would love the hear your thoughts in regard to what you smoke regularly or for special occasions. Ed
Buck14
I’m a regular production whore. I only buy REs if i can get them for base price and in person in the country of issuance (or have same purchased by a friend). I WILL purchase LE/LCDH EX in the future but sparingly and only in the marcas that I really love multiple regular production vitolas in.
encephalization
Although I agree with @PigFish on most of the McRib argument, there are exceptions. I picked up the 2016 QdO French RE at CDG for 62 or 64 euros per 10 box. Definitely worth it, they are smoking beautifully already (and not like any QdO I've had previously). The Spanish PLs from a few years back were like 4 euros a stick, worth more than double that in my opinion. In terms of the OP question, I'd say that the Club Allones (2015 LE) is smoking great right now. I was really impressed by the 2017 Punch, think that will be a fantastic cigar in a year or two. I tried the 35th Phoenician 8-9 months ago and it was not ready but maybe I need to revisit. ps. @PigFish we're starving for a youtube review ds. 1
BrightonCorgi
It's all about the size and relative price. If I find it in in EL or RE, I buy them.
JLFIRST
I'm not an RE chaser at all! I would rather have great aged regular production sticks. That being said, I would check out the RA Paises Bajos. They're pretty hard to find due to the minimal amount made but well worth the hunt! The second one I'd get would be the QD RE France. It is such a superb cigar with tremendous flavor. The third would be the Bolivar Ponderosa. A great cigar with nothing but impeccable flavor, burn, and construction. Agree, some Regionals are very good value, very well made. And you cannot (shouldn't) lump LEs and REs together. Two completely different programs.
Habana Mike
While I've moved back to mostly standard production purchasing having become disillusioned with the huge price hikes on LE/RE offerings, I do find you get some interesting blends and vitolas from the RE program in particular. Almost a decade ago you could pick up a cab of 25 RE such as the RACF for under $250. Now you're lucky to see a box of 10 under that.... That said, these have been standout hits for me: La Escepcion Selectos Finos Bolivar Especiales No.2 and Emperador Sancho Panza Eslavos ERDM Aniversario La Flor de Cano Gran Cano Montecristo 520 and Dantes Por Larrañaga Magnificos, Secretos and Encantos Punch Serie D'Oro No. 2 Ramon Allones Celestiales Finos, Super Ramons, Club Allones and Gorditos RyJ Dukes SLR Incas VR Maestros and XV Anniversario Trinidad Topes
gweilgi
I cannot offer a set of ten, but from the RE/LE cigars that I have smoked recently, these stood out: Montecristo robusto LE 2006 HdM Regalos LE 2007 Both smoking utterly beautifully now....
