Do you ever X cut (or even star cut) ?  I've never v cut, but seeing some recent pics here has piqued my interest, as it looks like it could possibly alleviate some draw issues. Considered that if V is good, X would be more of a good thing, and we all know that too much of a good thing is still a good thing :)

Thanks for any insight.

Can't comment on the X cut but will say as someone who has recently started V cutting, I find it does give a slightly better probability of a better draw, the V just adds a more surface area.  I have the Colibri V cutter and it makes a nice deep cut.  Not sure how well they work on lanceros/ninfas/etc but I do recommend getting one and trying it.

I have the colibri table cutter that has both the flat cut and the V. I find myself doing almost exclusively the v cut now. I do find it gives better draw at times. But even then sometimes I still need to use a perfec draw. I've never tried the X but one of these days I may just have to try it.

I just picked up my first V-cutter - a Xikar - a few weeks ago. I like it for larger RG cigars, maybe >48. It seems to allow for more smoke, but I can't say that I've used it enough times to notice if it improves the draw or really makes any difference.

I have + cut some before.  If I cut it once and it is still very tight I sometimes cut it again at a 90 degree angle to first cut.  I helps sometimes with the draw.  I have not had a problem with the cap falling apart either by doing this.

My issue with my xikar v cutter is that on some really flat capped cigars, it barely cuts into them. I see people posting pics of the cut from the colibri, and it's like 3x more depth than what a xikar could do on the same stick. I think it's time I get a colibri.

I V cut probably 33%. straight cut 33%.  If I'm smoking a small ring gauge cigar, I'll use a small diameter punch.  If the draw is tight after a V cut, I'll X cut to try to improve the draw.  Works sometimes, but most of the time I end up using my PerfecDraw to loosen up a tight draw.  PerfecDraw is worth every penny, and works much better than the other draw tools I've purchased.

I have a Colibri V cutter and I use it on everything except piramids/belicosos and LGC MdO4s.  Like Thig and stogieluver, I cut once and test of the draw, and if too tight then I will X-cut but I only need to do this about a quarter of the time.  I have never heard of a star cut.  If anyone has tried this I’d love to see a pic and read about your experience.

Just got a Colibri SV cutter for Christmas. Now all I do is X-cuts. Love that cut.

I was worried that it may cause issues with the wrapper - have not had any issues.

I have.  Might as well have just straight cut.

Not sure if you don’t like the V cut on Piramids or just haven’t tried it. For me an I know a good number of other members think a piramid is the best time to use a V cut.

...Tried it a couple times but found I just prefer the feel of a straight cut on a beli.  Maybe time to give it another go.

Do you have a link? I've found few things more frustrating in this hobby than trying to find a really good punch cutter.

This tabletop makes  V cuts easy & I find myself using it 75% of the time.  Push the cigar in the first slot if it's less than 50 rg & pull the handle. Test the draw & If it's tight rotate & make an X cut.  1 of the best accessories I've ever purchased. I highly recommend.

I pretty much alway V cut. The only time I have wrapper issues is if it's a little dry.

Draw - and in turn burn and taste - of a cigar are almost never controlled by the cut. Its a construction issue. You may influence the "mouth feel" by a narrower or wider, or V-, cut, but you won't control the cigar's mechanics and as such not its combustion properties. That's probably why I never mess around much with cutting: As wide a straight cut as possible and that's it. YMMV.

We have this one, the Colibri block new red one and of course the regular ones that just slice the ends right off. We recently started going for the V cutting but I have been going more back to the flat cut sometimes.

I am a bore, what can I tell ya.

I V-cut 75% of the time and have used both the Colibri and Xikar.  IMO, the Colibri cuts a little too deep to make an "X" pattern.  I also find the Xikar cutter provides too shallow of a cut to my liking, having to cut multiple times.  FWIW I have found my cigars burn straighter after switching over to predominantly V-cuts but this could be a pure coincidence.

I've exclusively been using v-cut for at least 3 years now, wouldn't go back to another style. I haven't found the need to do an x-cut, if I feel I need more draw I just use a deeper v-cutter instead of the medium depth v-cutter.

V cuts will limit the draw a bit, and you may experience tar building up at the foot.

I used the V cut for the first 10 years I smoked cigars, back when cigars were smaller ring.

I bought this on Amazon.  Not sure who makes it, but it is high quality piece, and works and looks great.

I X cut for the even draw but it doesn't feel as nice on the lips.
