You want to seek out Monte 2s from late 1991 to early 1992. Made at a provincial factory like Villa Clara. Specifically box code NNSN-VC3 or if you could find a box of Monte 2 from La Corona from around this time you will likely have a legendary box. Like NNSI with an FR Code. Hope this helps in your search.

I had some awesome GKI Monte #2 from 2001. I finished the box about a year ago, but it stood out as exceptional.

Seems like an impossible box to find. I was expecting like the below answer.

But you seem to know what your talking about. Any suggestions on where to even begin looking for something that old?

Well, you asked for the 'legendary' and he gave you an honest answer....

I'll add a more general advice, naughtily assuming you are newer to the hobby (not sure whether true...no harm intended): start with current production. Then, look out for sticks or boxes with a little age on them (3-8 years) and go from there. Check out what you like, as a Monte 2 will change its profile. Any great or even "legendary" production that had been exceptionally good 10, 15 or 20 years ago might not be to your personal liking at this very moment. Or might indeed have fallen flat, not least depending on storage. 2008 and 2012 have brought up some very good Monte 2 as to my experience (not such a regular Monte 2 smoker, so I am not an authority here). If it's not for collecting but for smoking - much more important than to chase a particular box code is selecting a good box. This holds in particular when going to purchase aged stock.

Hi all,

I'm looking to hunt down the most legendary (aged) Monte 2s I can find. Are there any box codes, years, factories I should be looking for specifically?

Thanks!

Didnt you ask the "most legendary"?

I think you want "the best box I can find". It is not legendary.

If they are truly legendary then you can expect they are also scarce. It is highly doubtful you will find them at any retail operation, or even the run of the mill secondary market. Likely the only shot you'll have is in someone's private collection, or at an estate auction.

So,you probably want something you can find, so explore the 2014 items available.

If you want better chances of a top box, expand your search to Monte 1 and 3, as there is less pressure to produce these and you could possibly find something nice.

expanding your search back to 2008,you will have a smaller potential field, but including the #1 and #3 you could find what you are looking for.

further back, disregard late 1999 thru early 2001 offerings unless the can see and touch them. This era is full of problem cigars.

before '99,plan on a very large investment.

best of luck, hope you find something nice.

LGR JUN 17. At least to me

Looking forward to trying a couple of these a year

In all seriousness, I’d buy multiple boxes and age them myself before spending a fortune on one box

Just wait until some boxes are posted on this site.  You'll know at least they are good examples of what  Monte 2 is today.  In general, I find this cigar a hard one to get a box of how good the lore is about it.  I am equally as fine with Upmann No. 2 or VR Unicos as I just like this size cigar.  Which brand is irrelevant for me.

I would agree with this. Unless you're willing to spend big, you're actually best to roll with the quality where it pops up.  Shaffer22 picked up these TOS Mar 2017 SC La Punta the other day. They look like the hottest Piramide/belicoso on the market right now.  Probably cost much less too.

In terms of finding good quality aged Monte 2 try seeing if you can find any Geneva merchants that will ship to you. I can see one is holding 2015 stock at a good price.

The last great stock I saw was SOM 2015 boxes of ten, not only did they look great, their flavour profile was 100% true to what they should be. Pic attached

The one on the left was pretty epic?

A sledgehammer of full black coffee and strong black tobacco

The one on the left does that that Monte looking wrapper old I like.
