JC67 Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Do you prefer to smoke oily cigars when you get them or let them rest?

Jbhunter223 Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Being fairly new and not having had too much variety with CCs I always try a couple ROTT so I know where they're at. 1
Customsfan Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 The question I have is, Does an oily wrapper mean that a cigar is young and vice versa?
PigFish Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 ... the wrapper is but one of the many leaves that makes up a cigar. So the question really becomes, should one treat a cigar with wrapper 'A' different than a cigar with wrapper 'B?' I don't think so! -Piggy 1
99call Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Does this translate as "do you like to smoke full bodied cigars ROTT?" I would say certain cigars read: R&J Cazadores, JLP Cazadores, Party 898's, old school RA 898's have an upside of a "i'll kick your ass, and you'll like it" appeal when smoked young. I would say both of the 898's would have I whole heap of upside if left to age too, with both of the Cazadores designed to be a bit more linear, and probably fall off a bit after 8-10yrs. I would agree with Piggy to some degree, the phrase "All fur coat, and no knickers" could apply to lots of glossy looking sticks. If a super slick looking appearance was the hurdle that must jumped, i'd say a good 90% of production from 1950-2000 would have ended up in the bin. With any complex pursuit there is a tidal wave of pomp and ceremony/ BS one could look into. The only truisms that count, are your own. One cigar that in general, looks super glossy, and smoking very well is the Upmann Royal Robustos.
Customsfan Posted August 18, 2017 Posted August 18, 2017 Wait a minute. Did someone say " all for coat and no knickers. ";)
Akela3rd Posted August 19, 2017 Posted August 19, 2017 Wait a minute. Did someone say " all for coat and no knickers. ";) Yup. In the UK (almost specifically northern England) it means posh looking superficially but common as muck. Usually applied to women of loose morals. Here it's been slightly changed in meaning to allude that something looks good, but isn't in reality. A slight lexicographic twist in crossing the pond. Thunder & Lightening '75-'15 3
JohnS Posted August 22, 2017 Posted August 22, 2017 Oils in a cigar indicate flavour. The problem is balancing oils and the fermentation period of the leaves in the cigar, it needs to be right so that they aren't too wet, or too dried out. An oily wrapper isn't as big an issue as consistent moisture evident in the cigar/s, for me, this is what I'm more concerned about. Having said this, if I have an oily wrapper, so to speak, I'm more inclined to rest them than smoke them earlier, but this is my personal preference.
