OZCUBAN Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Hi all just thought I would share this As a Stout lover I have tried many over the years, most people are familiar with the ubiquitous Guinness there are many many more out there ,and a lot from craft brewers (small batch ) whilst this Narwal Stout from Sierra Nevada is by no means cheap especially here in OZ if you love Stout do try and source a bottle you will not be disappointed About The Beer Country: USA Brewery: Sierra Nevada Brewing Company Style: Imperial Stout Format: 750ml Bottle ABV: 12.9% Barrel-Aged Narwhal is our deliciously dark Imperial Stout aged in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Barrel aging is a strange science; it mellows some characteristics of the original beer while intensifying others. Narwhal's aggressive roastiness has calmed, but the rich, chocolate-like malt backbone is brought to the fore. Black as midnight, this intense stout is complex with notes of cocoa and espresso balanced with hints of vanilla and toasted coconut from the oak casks. Nearly as rare as it's nautical namesake, try Barrel-Aged Narwhal while you can because like the creature itself, it will soon dive into the depths and leave nary a trace behind. it comes in stubble bottle format And 750 ml bottles as well and at 10.1 % be careful or it might be a case of "Damn yea Whale " ? Cheers 3
canadianbeaver Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Guinness plus bourbon? Dream come true for me brother. Thanks! Will search for it when we hit Nashville in the Fall. CB 1
dominattorney Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 I've had that one and found it to be enjoyable. What is your selection like in OZ anyway? Sierra Nevada is not exactly a micro brewery by US terms. If you're ever in Colorado, I can show you a thing or two that will blow your mind wide open regarding barrel aged dark beers. If you like stouts, try a barrel aged Belgian Quad. There's a brewery in TX, Adelbarts, that does excellent work in that regard. 1
ElPuro Posted July 10, 2017 Posted July 10, 2017 Brooklyn chocolate stout is also more widely available. It's a meal, but quite good, especially on cold days.
Bill Hayes Posted July 11, 2017 Posted July 11, 2017 I love the Narwhal too. Give the Garage Project Day of the Dead a try - From New Zealand. Also like Clown Shoes Blaecorn Unidragon, Clown Shoes Chocolate Sombrero, Founders Kentucky Breakfast stout, Bridge Road B2 Bomber Mach 7.0. I'm on a beer app called UNTAPPD. Helps to remember and collate and rate beers. Also works like social media, allowing check-ins to bars and messaging between mates. 2
awkwardPause Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Love this stuff. Just recently started seeing it in the more session-friendly 750mL size around my neighborhood Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk 2
Drguano Posted July 13, 2017 Posted July 13, 2017 Narwhal is delightful. I enjoy most anything from Sierra Nevada and Founders. If you like Narwhal and Founders Breakfast Stout, watch for Founders Imperial Stout.Very tasty. Then there is the rare KBS... truly sublime... 2

They are fantastic. Also have a bottle of Founders KBS in the fridge but waiting for some daytime drinking to enjoy it. With a big hit of coffee in it I would be awake all night if I drank it after 4pm.
